In the first 30 days you will: Work with talented engineers who will work closely with you to develop the next generation products. Learn, code, test, design, resolve design issues and contribute to delivering design improvements to reach the goal of launching new/improved features and new products into our growing IT, IOT and Edge markets. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Develop embedded SW (aka FW) to achieve the goals of the business. Develop embedded SW for new product features and behavior, resolving FW defects and resolving customer issues through embedded SW design. Develop and continuously improve the embedded SW development, defect identification and tracking, test and release processes. Stay informed of emerging tools and methods in the embedded SW area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Translate specifications, requirements and statement of work to an actionable system/embedded code Design Plan Develop industry standard compliant embedded code DVT and validation test plans. Reviews embedded code test reports, results and corrective action requirements to assure compliance. Develop and manage coding standards and design reviews to assure compliance to industry and OEM standards. Manage the embedded code design plan/process and resulting activities to provide embedded code activities, tasks and deliverables to program technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements. Collaborate with design resources to develop and implement specific requirements such as product behavior and human interface/ human factors considerations and to achieve acceptance of critical design elements and unique design analysis deliverables. Embedded code development, maintenance, validation and release following a structured engineering process to assure product quality and reliability. Troubleshoot/ debug embedded code and track software and operational “bugs” to closure. Develop supporting engineering documentation including software requirements specification, software behavior specification, software release notice, design verification test plan and report, communication protocol compliance specification, product configuration specification, user interface specification. Lead firmware and functional design reviews at various product development stages Assure manufacturability of design elements including automated test and error proofing activities, assure integrity with Eaton Product specifications and manage implementation of design corrective actions based on design reviews and other feedback sources. Manage product cost of design elements within product cost targets. Train and mentor embedded code design teams globally to assure long term capability and skill development of embedded code design teams. Develop and implement functional improvements in the firmware Design based on lessons learned, best practices and standardization Qualifications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years’ experience programming microcontrollers or control applications in real time environment Minimum 5 years’ experience writing code for embedded processors in C/C++ languages. POSITION CRITERIA: In depth knowledge of C/C++ Experience with Texas Instruments DSPs (fixed and floating point) and CCS Experience with ARM processors (fixed and floating point) Experience with IAR Embedded Workbench Experience with Quartus for Intel/Altera FPGAs/CPLDs Basic understanding of control theory (Matlab/Simulink/PLECS) Structured analysis & design RTOS experience – FreeRTOS or ThreadX (threads/tasks, synchronization, scheduling, message queues, semaphores, mutexes and events) Communication Protocols (SNMP, CAN, USB, TCP/IP, RS232/485, SPI, I2C, 1-Wire). Peripherals (DMA, LCD, FLASH, RAM, ADC, DAC, PWM, voltage/current/temp sensors) Experience with BSP development and middle-ware integration. Ability to read schematics and interpret the behavior of electronic systems. Ability to read and interpret datasheets (ie. Timing requirements and interface etc.) Ability to analyze and troubleshoot analog and digital control circuitry. Hands-on PCB bring-up, testing and debugging. Experience with basic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and signal generators. SVN, GIT or similar experience required Excellent Written and verbal communications. Position requires an individual who is self-motivated, self-managed, team-oriented, proactive, attentive to detail, task oriented, and able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Understanding of single-phase and three-phase power systems and power distribution. Design experience with UPS and/or power electronic products for high reliability preferred Digital HW design experience. Simulation and Model based design experience. Experience in design of closed loop control system is plus. VHDL/Verilog Experience, ModelSim or other HDL verification tool Experience leading a cross-functional or global development team.
