Eaton’s Life Safety Division is currently seeking a Lead Firmware Systems Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Sarasota, FL facility. Position Overview: The Lead Firmware Systems Engineer will be responsible for firmware architecture, design, implementation and test. The individual will perform embedded firmware development for use in Mass Notification and Life Safety Systems. Making what matters work at Eaton takes the passion of every employee around the world. In this function you will: Drive firmware projects to completion per Eaton’s ProLaunch process. Work closely with the Electrical Engineering Systems Leader, help conceive, architect and develop a new product platform leveraging both firmware and software as required. Transform end-user needs into architectures and specifications for software and firmware systems, evaluating candidate designs for their ability to satisfy end-user requirements and meet targets for maintainability, reliability, and testability. Conduct thorough code design reviews to ensure reliability and mitigate project risks and to ensure proper documentation methods are followed. Develop firmware on a variety of complex projects; apply a high level of technical knowledge to the development of plans and specifications, etc. Design, implement, and test embedded firmware solutions on different platforms. Design and develop platform communication protocols. Design and develop platform database structures and dataflow diagrams. Read and interpret board level schematics. Evaluate and select third party software tools and libraries as required. Positively collaborate with cross functional global members of the Engineering, Marketing, Field Ops, Sales, and Manufacturing teams. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution Minimum of 2 years of Systems Engineering Minimum of 3 years of experience with RTOS, C, and/or C++ and currently hands-on authoring firmware code Minimum of 4 years of experience with TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/S, and/or SSH Minimum of 5 years of experience with Software and/or Firmware Engineering Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future. No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of the work location will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred Experience with LCD display driver and embedded GUI design Experience with embedded board to board communications Experience as systems engineer architecting combined software and embedded products Experience with IoT implementations Experience with cloud-based computing systems Experience designing and releasing products in a life safety, mission critical, medical, and/or regulatory controlled environment Experience integrating 3rd party libraries, open source SW tools/libraries into a BSP e.g. Dropbear.
