Eaton’s Electrical Sector, Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure (CPDI) division is currently seeking a Lead Industrial Designer to join our team. This position can be based in Raleigh, NC. or Chicago, IL. Position Overview: The Lead Industrial Designer will work on a diverse portfolio of projects for our Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure (CPDI) division. The ideal candidate has an uncanny sense for clean design, is a fierce advocate for the user, and is committed to creating elegantly simple user experiences from complex workflows. Experience with Design Thinking and the Internet of Things (IoT) is a plus. Note: This is a leadership position; however, you will be expected to complete design work personally. In this function you will: Use traditional Industrial design methods of Discovery, Communication, and Documentation to identify problems, create solutions and work with development partner teams to develop products for volume production and commercialization Translate research and business plans into product solutions that lead to intuitive user experiences Define complex and diverse customer needs and distill them into clean, understandable solutions Execute across all project phases from early discovery and research through detailed visual design documentation Plan and facilitate Design Thinking workshops across a diverse group of businesses and product lines (Training will be provided) Collaborate closely with other human-centered designers, engineers, and business professionals to guide products through the delivery process Effectively advocate for users in a corporate climate, providing day-to-day design leadership Scope, schedule, organize and plan resources for design projects (Project management) Plan, lead, and work with outside design and manufacturing firms to deliver work or add capability when necessary Manage project intake process, SOW, load balancing designers, and overall project resourcing Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Industrial Design from an accredited institution Minimum of 7 years of professional Industrial Design experience focused on physical product development Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future Preferred qualifications: Working knowledge of Human-centered design principles and practices Experience applying Design Thinking tools and methodologies is a plus Ability to plan and build physical and digital prototypes ranging from low to high fidelity output Understanding and application of design for manufacture (DFM), materials and processes practices Professional command of 3D Parametric modeling software. Experience creating and preparing files for 3D Printing output & volume manufacturing processes Experience using Solidworks or the ability to ramp up from another 3D Parametric software Light experience and interest in designing digital user interfaces (Ui) Position Criteria: Build strong relationships and operating rhythms with leaders inside and outside the core design team. Inspire product teams to push the boundaries past common solutions focusing on human-centered design recommendations Participate in staffing our design team (Help locate design talent, plan, and participate in the interviewing process) Must demonstrate a focus on Physical product design (iD) with some experience designing digital user interfaces (Ui) Working hours that accommodate International time zones Programs are offered globally, but program availabilities may vary by site.
