We are looking for a Lead Laser Engineer to join our Advanced Optics Team. Working on Microsoft HoloLens you will be part of an organization which consists of professionals from the fields of optics, mechanical engineering, micro- and nanofabrication, and process technology. 

 

In this role you will key role in new light-source development for future devices. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners and in-house fabrication experts. Your background and experience in III-V semiconductor processing, photonics, lasers, as well as working parallel with multiple interphases and complex challenges will enable you to engage quickly into your new role. With help of continuous learning you can be successful in long-term and adapt new innovative technologies.  

 

With your open and determined attitude you will ensure smooth collaboration within Microsoft and its supplier network. An innovative and pragmatic approach coupled with strong time and resource management skills will enable you to succeed in this cutting-edge technology environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure suppliers capability to understand and meet our specifications and requirement.
  • Lead the III-V processing activities and ensure timely execution and quality.
  • Plan, coordinate and drive the interfaces from design to final products.
  • Analyze data and actively look for improvement opportunities in the design and processes.
  • Develop and test prototypes.
  • Establish, hire and Lead the in-house III-V laser process team to support long term success.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong photonics, III-V lasers & processing background (5+ years), from GaN and/or GaAs based laser.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-motivated to take personal ownership and deliver results while working in a highly challenging environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in complex environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently with other design disciplines as well as with manufacturing to create solutions.
  • Able to provide leadership or mentorship among team members; provide support and encourage collaboration.
  • Growth mindset.
  • Capability and willingness for occasional international travel.
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree with background in Technical Physics or relevant field.
