Eaton’s growing EV eMobility Division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer – Sustaining to join our team. This position is based at our Tualatin, OR location. This Hybrid role will report on-site Tuesday - Thursday in Tualatin with the option to work remotely on Monday and Friday. We make the electric revolution work. Position Overview: In this role, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will conceptualize, manage the design, development, testing, technical documentation, and launch of new products and extensions/updates to existing product lines. This position will support our eMobility Power Distribution and Protection products including but not limited to BDU , PDU, PDC Eaton product lines. In this function you will: Drive and participate in requirements evaluation, design reviews and related product development processes. Using advanced computer tools, create and document product design updates driven by customer needs, manufacturing opportunities and or Eaton’s supply base. Support pre-production (prototype) product building, validation and evaluation. Be a key part of the team during the deployment of design updates to sustaining products and new products during launch. Generate (when necessary) product requirements specification from Voice of the Customer (VoC) input. Conduct testing of product changes and new products in accordance with standards and customer requirements to confirm conformance. Launch new products following the Eaton PROLaunch stage-gate process. Investigate and evaluate new materials and their appropriate use within our product line Participate in problem solving work leveraging methods like 8D, Fishbone, and 5 Why Lead and support team activities that create higher value products, benefiting both Eaton and our customers. Review and conduct computer-based FEA & FMEA analysis on new products to ensure their integrity and use the results to modify designs. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution Minimum of five (5) years working in new product development or sustaining product engineering CAD and PLM system experience, examples of 2D drawing and specification creation. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in US without company sponsorship, now or in the future. No relocation benefit is being offered for this role, candidates must reside within 50 miles of Tualatin, OR. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree preferred. Experience with electrical power conversion and power distribution Experience with CREO-ProE, Solid Works, and Enovia PLM Ability to work with cross-functional team across the globe. Hands on experience with manufactured mechanical assemblies, ideally automotive types Product development of electronics packaging Experience with aluminum die casting component design Experience in injection molded plastics component design Experience with packaging definition of Printed Circuit Boards and wire routing (ideally on automotive products) Stamped busbar and electrical contact system design Ability to utilize and learn specialized techniques for development to launch process improvements including development stage gate processes and Design for Six Sigma tools. Understanding of clearance and creepage requirements on high voltage components driving design intent. Establishing and document design rules GD&T experience and tolerance stacks Experience within passenger car market environmental requirements and related qualification testing required. Experience directing, interpreting and making design decisions from mechanical design analysis performed with FEA software tool. Experience with DFx practices: Manufacturing, Test, Repair, Quality.
