Eaton’s Industrial Control Division (ICD) is currently seeking a Lead Power Electrical Engineer to join our team in Menomonee Falls. Position Overview: As a Lead Power Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of power electronics related to variable frequency drives for the Industrial Controls Division. You’ll leverage your related professional experience and education in power electronics theory and methods to deliver state of the art next generation variable frequency drives and power electronics platforms. Your primary responsibilities will include design, simulation, implementation, certification, and verification of power electronics related to the division’s next generation products. Power electronics designs include both inverters and converters (leveraging Si and possibly SiC technology) as well as switch mode power supplies, filters and interface control circuitry and drivers. You will work with other team members driving new product development utilizing Eaton’s processes while leveraging state of the art tools (dynes, power meters, oscilloscopes, EMC equipment, HiL systems). In addition to working with other power electronics engineers within the division, you will also have the opportunity to work with experts from within Eaton’s research labs (also co-located in Menomonee Falls) and Eaton’s power electronics center of excellence (Raleigh, NC). This position will reside in Menomonee Falls, WI, one of our divisional headquarters, which houses engineering for multiple product lines, as well as marketing, sales, finance, and R&D. The facility was built in 2012 and boasts an open office layout surrounded by large windows, as well as 50,000+ square feet of onsite state-of-the-art laboratory space. In this role, you will: Lead all aspects of power electronic design engineering related to a major NPD effort, and other duties as required to achieve departmental and business objectives. Analysis and Design of electrical power inverters and converters and control circuits using latest IGBT and WBG (SiC) Power module technologies. Experience with CAD tools for design and simulation, such as DxDesigner, Cadence MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, Pspice, PSIM, LTspice, Altium etc. Work with PCB drafting personnel hands-on PCB design (digital/analog/power) and System and subsystem EMC/EMI mitigation in high noise environments. Understanding of electrical safety and environmental certification process. Product compliance with agency standards UL, IEC, NEMA and others. Utilize Eaton’s new product development process (PROLaunch) as a framework for all NPD. Develop thorough and appropriate documentation for all new and existing product work through collaboration with marketing and other technical personnel. Coordinate and communicate with other disciplines to ensure project success. Other disciplines include: Mechanical/Thermal Engineering, Industrialization, Test Engineering, Quality Engineering, Designers and Technicians. Establish project and product cost and time estimates for specific areas of responsibility. Perform and supervise development testing. Work with lab technicians to develop test plans and perform testing to ensure product requirements are achieved. Support and manage the ongoing maintenance of existing products by addressing manufacturing, customer and supplier issues pertaining to electrical design aspects of the product. Drive engineering cost reductions in existing products. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering A minimum of 3 years of experience in power electronics design including switch mode power supply topologies, inverters, and semiconductor component selection. Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the work location listed as no relocation is being offered Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international). Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering with focus in power electronics. Firm understanding with EMI/EMC concepts including identification of sources, transmission paths and mitigation methods. Hands-on approach with proven track record of progressing designs/concepts into production. Firm understanding of magnetic circuit design including: Transformer design, gapped energy storage devices and filtering components. Excellent troubleshooting skills in analog circuit design and ability to view issues systemically for driving design trade-off discussion. Ability to drive root cause failure analysis Experience in analog circuit design and troubleshooting.
