We’re searching for an experienced program manager to join the Airbnb Hosting Program Management Office to support the Consumer Insights & Trends team.
The Consumer Insights & Trends team develops and leverages a wide range of data, analysis, and insights to inform key business strategies and inspire innovation. We’re looking for an experienced program manager to help establish and grow best practices for our team’s operations — including communication, prioritization, coordination, and process optimization — in tandem with both internal and external partners. This person has a proven track record of program development and management, with particular experience in research disciplines — supporting the planning, operationalizing, tracking and scaling of business-critical insights projects within a complex, fast-paced organization. The ideal candidate is an independent, optimistic, creative and collaborative problem solver with the ability to anticipate both short- and long-term challenges, and to proactively initiate solutions in coordination with multiple internal and external cross-functional partners. Ultimately, we’re seeking someone with the skills to cultivate relationships, increase knowledge sharing, drive efficiency, and grow capacity within our organization to maximize the collective impact of the Consumer Insights team.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to the Program Management discipline and to further develop the Project/Program Management role, processes and operations.
- Maintains a broad view, shares lessons learned, and mentors junior team members.
- Serves as an effective communicator with the ability to autonomously craft a concise narrative that inspires & influences disparate groups of people, including company leaders, to drive outcomes for key business objectives.
- Autonomously and proactively identifies who, when, what, and how to communicate, to drive intended outcomes, executing in a measured and balanced way for the full spectrum of audiences relevant to business objectives
- Autonomously creates and sets the gold standard for others to follow or be inspired by developing templates, processes, frameworks etc. for the team as needed
Tactical Responsibilities:
- Daily program management throughout the program life cycle
- Defining the program governance (controls)
- Planning the overall program and monitoring the progress
- Managing risks, issues, and taking corrective measurements
- Coordinating the projects and their cross dependencies
- Managing and utilizing deliverables across projects
- Managing stakeholders’ expectations & communication
- Aligning the deliverables (outputs) to the program’s “outcome”
- Managing the program management documentation & deliverables such as the program charters, timelines, RACI charts, and communication plans
Required Experience, Skills, and Attributes
The program manager must have strong practical experience in project/program management, which has been gained through managing large and complex programs. They must have the following:
- Strong knowledge and handling of project and program management methodology and techniques;
- Significant understanding of the research/insights discipline, roles, principles and practices
- Experience managing projects that include both internal and external/3rd-party stakeholders/contributors
- Ability to work positively with cross functional stakeholders and align them on common goals;
- Strong leadership and management skills;
- The ability to find innovative ways to resolve problems
- Able to work in ambiguous and unpredictable programs and create structure and consistency with teams.
- Strong situational awareness and critical thinking.
- Able to balance between pragmatism and dogmatism of program execution.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8-10 years experience managing moderate to large sized projects/programs from initiation to launch within complex operating environments.
- Exceptional leadership, priority management, facilitation, and organizational skills
- Outstanding working knowledge of project/program management principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified in at least 2-3 different program & project management methodologies such as, Scrum (CSM), SAFe (SPC, SA), PMI-PMP, SAPM, etc.
- Strong knowledge in user experience and design thinking principles
- Previous experience in building PMOs and establishing program management processes
- Strong knowledge in program/portfolio management tools (Atlassian Suite, Asana, etc)
The starting base pay for this role is between $150,000 and $185,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
