Siemens Mobility is looking for a Lead Project Engineer to join their Rail Infrastructure team in Euston. This opportunity is part of the East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) team. Government funding in excess of £1Bn in digital signalling has been announced by the Transport secretary in July 2022 for the ECDP Framework. This involves deploying state of the art European Train Control System technology on the East Coast Mainline, creating the next generation railway. It will transform the capability of the south section of the East Coast Main Line, one of Britain’s busiest rail routes, improving performance and safety through the introduction of digital signalling. The programme is split into 12 phases, to be delivered by 2030. This programme is a once in a generation opportunity to improve and transform how the railway works for passenger and freight users. This programme is the first deployment of digital signalling on an intercity main line railway in the UK and lays the foundation for further deployment across the network, creating a more capable and more efficient railway. The programme is trail blazing a new path for Network Rail, suppliers, as well as TOCs and FOCs to collaboratively work together in a transformative Thin Client model. This allows for higher levels of transparencies between organisations and more agile promotion of best practice. For more information on the East Coast Digital Programme please follow the link below: https://nextgenerationrailway.co.uk/home Reporting to Senior Engineer staff, the Lead Project Engineer shall have experience in the delivery of Digital railway signalling and control systems and be able to provide technical leadership to stakeholders and junior members of the team. This role will include the delivery of Digital Signalling Systems within a Thin Client model so additional duties, normally associated with the client, will also need to be undertaken. What are my responsibilities? Provide technical leadership for Project Engineers allocated to the ECDP. Undertake local Project Engineering duties in line with requirements from the Project Engineering Manager. Support the management team to monitor the progress of works and ensure that the delivery is being planned and implemented on all projects as required Ensure that the technical standards are maintained in all aspects of the system delivery, in order that safe and successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved Assist with forecasting the overall engineering resources and key skills necessary for allocated projects. Both producing and reviewing the quality/accuracy of Digital Architectures and associated Risk Based Integration Plans. Supporting the Senior Project Engineer Delivery in assessing the consistency and technical compatibility of different System baselines. Supporting the execution of System Integration / testing activities for digital delivery. Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan input. Ensure CSM considerations and activities are addressed. Provide mentoring and coaching to develop junior engineers Perform duties as directed by senior management from time to time Act in the role of Project Engineering Manager as required by senior management What do I need to qualify for this job? Experience in the delivery of Digital Railway Signalling (ETCS) and Control Systems (essential) Excellent communications skills, understanding of task time and people management (essential). Leadership skills including an ability to drive a team’s performance (essential). Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent (essential). Member of the IET, IRSE or other recognised professional body (essential). Appropriate technical certification or evidence of competence. Working towards Professional Engineer status. Experience in all aspects of Signal and Railway Engineering. Practical experience of the operational requirements of railway construction works Knowledge of project safety requirements and contract conditions About us We’re Siemens.
