Lead Transport Co-ordinator / Driver

Job Description

Summary of duties (not in order of priority)

  • Driving duties
  • To carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects
  • Deliver/collect company goods to/from customers/suppliers premises; carried out in accordance with customer site regulations; following agreed route sequences
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with customers and report on same to managers as required.
  • Adhere to legislation - M.O.T, highway code, driving hours & ADR Legislation
  • Gain POD signatures (sign on glass) and report delivery discrepancies
  • Assist the supervisor/manager with route development, planning and improvements.
  • Co-ordinate and arrange empty chemical bottle collections from route customers.
  • To maintain a high standard of housekeeping – vehicle cab and delivery box
  • To operate and maintain equipment in accordance with relevant training.
  • Comply with ‘Driver code of conduct guide card
  • Responsible for using safe-working practices at all times when handling goods, equipment and hazardous substances
  • To actively support and maintain the departmental process and procedures
  • Required to change delivery routes at short notice and complete refresher training maintaining knowledge of a minimum of three delivery routes
  • Fleet administration duties - support & cover fleet management activities
  • Liaise with garages to coordinate vehicle servicing, repairs and MOT tests
  • Review drivers daily defect reports and promptly arrange repairs
  • ADR and PPE issue and driver compliance
  • Assist with tachograph administration and compliance
  • Prepare and publish delivery schedules, allocating drivers and vehicles as appropriate to routes
  • Support and cover daily route management (outbound shipments IBS)
  • Review and optimizes daily routes - carrier and fleet in IBS
  • Review volume and allocate most appropriate vehicle to routes and instruct the loading team. Schedule additional collections as required
  • Support customer services with queries and transport specific assistance
  • To undertake other such responsibilities as may be required from time to time

  • Embrace and participate in PPI initiatives to identify improvements and cost savings to the business

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Ability to plan, control and produce effective solutions - possess excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Time management - manage ones own time
  • You are required to be smartly presented at all times, wearing the appropriate drivers uniform and safety footwear.
  • You are required to be professional and courteous at all times when dealing with customers contractors and suppliers.
  • A minimum of 1 years’ experience of multi-drop deliveries will be required
  • Basic level competency with Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook
  • Knowledge and experience of warehouse management systems
  • Experience of supervising /overseeing the work of others

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Clean, current driving licence
  • Previous experience as a multi-drop driver
  • Minimum class C driving licence (class C+E desirable)
  • ADR Vocational licence (transportation of hazardous substances)
  • Drivers CPC (Driver Certificate of Professions Competency)
