Job Description
Eaton’s Bussmann division is currently seeking a Lead VAVE Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Juarez facility. The Lead VAVE Engineer is responsible for leading and execute on engineering-related activities for top VAVE initiatives alongside design engineering, marketing and the associated manufacturing plants to improve product cost through engineering changes with a self-starting, hands on approach. The Lead VAVE Engineer will be responsible for building a pipeline VAVE projects while ensuring existing deck is being executed on critical path actions according to committed schedule. Additionally, the Lead VAVE Engineer will facilitate various cost out event such as VAVE Events, Supplier Total Waste Elimination Events and Kaizen blitzes. This position will work as part of the CPD cost productivity team in alignment with the overall strategy. Some activities related with the position will be: Lead top VAVE projects for Company across global sites to completion, using a hands-on approach to engineering-related and other project activities. These are typically products planned to continue future sales but may not be competitive in the market due to a high base cost. Build and maintain an active pipeline of VAVE projects to ensure a healthy pipeline of 1.5X current year profit plan for cost out. Coordinate with marketing, supply chain and engineering, evaluate competing products and lead the initiative to gain insight to cost opportunities which may be applied to Eaton products. Participate in and lead cross functional VAVE events to identify potential, actionable changes to design, material selection, etc. that lead to cost improvements through the engineering process. Lead supplier cost out initiatives using lean and VAVE concepts. Follow VAVE engineering projects through to completion, stepping in where needed to execute on engineering-related critical path actions to ensure cost improvement results are delivered. Documenting design changes via redlines or drawing/model changes Developing new BOM structures Evaluating certification requirements for material, process, or supplier changes Developing and executing test plans to test functionality, reliability (life), PPAPs, manufacturing process compliance, and certification. Acquiring samples by ordering direct from supplier. Coordinating Request for Quote packages, pulling drawings and spend detail. Report on VAVE project status, progress and pipeline to all stakeholders. Understanding of manufacturing and product cost accounting is fundamental to the position. Work and lead cross-functionally with other functions at global level. This requires the incumbent to have ambition, drive, enthusiasm and strong design engineering experience to compliment his/her technical ability. A highly entrepreneurial, self-starting sense of urgency along with a passion for the continuous improvement is desirable, along with a drive to grow both personally and professionally. Mentor others on direct and extended team in cost out/engineering processes and tools. #LI-MG1 Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Minimum 5 work experience in engineering or a manufacturing environment, with a strong background in design or maintenance of line of electrical assemblies. Experience with project management fundamentals. Ability to question the status quo and to be open minded and receptive to change. Bilingual in English and Spanish Demonstrated ability to interface and work with Operations and Design Engineering to achieve VAVE cost and/or productivity improvements. Confident working with senior plant and functional leaders throughout the organization. Understanding of engineering concepts and ability to read engineering documented drawings. Successful candidate will have knowledge of manufacturing processes such as material management, manufacturing operations, cost accounting, quality processes and procedures, project management and Lean manufacturing. Strong personality with an ability to influence in a matrix environment. Good Communication, presentation, interpersonal and professional presence with internal/external customers and suppliers. Must achieve results through others not directly in reporting structure. Ability to explain and train others on VAVE concepts. Must be a self-starter and able to successfully work independently, using a hands-on approach, with minimal guidance from VAVE Engineering Manager. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Able to travel outside the continental United States.
