Job Description

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Department of History

The appointee will join the teaching staff team of the department. The basic teaching load is not less than five classes per academic year and the medium of instruction is English. Other duties include: (i) development of future teaching and learning activities, (ii) supervision of some undergraduate students to write their final year projects, and (iii) sharing some student-related administrative work.

Requirements:

(a) possess a doctoral degree in history and related teaching experience in higher education; and

(b) ability to teach most of the following General Education courses offered by the department as well as several service learning courses to be developed:

  • An Introduction to Gender, Class, and Race
  • The Individual and Society
  • Inter-Asian Contacts and the Invention of Everyday Cultures
  • The Press and Public Opinion in China: Past, Present and Future
  • Hong Kong between Past and Present

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing 13 January 2020 or earlier. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
