Job Description

Department of Asian and Policy Studies 

The Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) is research intensive Department that prides itself on policy impact and training Asia’s next generation of change makers. The Department’s faculty are engaged in research and teaching addressing education, health, ageing, housing, urban and social policy, governance and comparative political-economy. The Department offers degree programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 

To further enhance its teaching strengths the Department of Asian and Policy Studies invites applications for a full-time Lecturer II positions with a specialisation in one or more of the following areas: (i) public management; (ii) public organisation and leadership; (iii) public organisations and human resource management; (iv) security and foreign policy – including international relations of Asia / greater China region; and (v) political economy of Asia and development. The appointment is tenable for 12 months. Contract renewal is subject to budget availability and staff performance. 

The appointee will participate in activities related to teaching, project supervision, curriculum and programme development, together with programme and course management at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. He/she is expected to be an active scholar committed to pedagogical innovation, the development of teaching techniques to assist students with learning difficulties, and to actively contribute to the whole-person development of students through active mentorship. Applicants must be able to demonstrate outstanding organisational, time-management and inter-personal skills. 

Applicants should provide evidence of past and current teaching accomplishments and a statement of teaching and research interests. 

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree, preferably a Doctoral Degree in a relevant discipline with a strong record of accomplishment or be able to demonstrate teaching potential for recent graduates. Applicants should also have post-qualification teaching experience in the tertiary education sector. They should preferably possess a relevant professional teaching certificate e.g. PGDE or qualification of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recognized by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong or other qualification of equivalence.
