The Department of History seeks to recruit a Lecturer in the field of World History. The appointee is expected to teach the course “China in World History” (multiple tutorials and/or lecture), a survey of the role that China played in world history from antiquity through the global Middle Ages to the present. It is one of the four Core Curriculum courses at the university, required for all undergraduate students that aim to cultivate a common foundation in humanistic education across the student body. The appointee may also teach courses in his/her fields of expertise, after fulfilling the primary obligations of this course. The position is open to any specialty within world history, but preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in the history of China (of any period) with an interest in comparative, global, and/or transnational history.
General Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline at the time of appointment in August of 2020. Candidates with substantial teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and proficiency in Chinese language in addition to English, will have an advantage.
Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will be normally made on a fixed-term contract of up to two years.
