As well as discovering, mining and processing many of the essential raw materials that enable, support and enhance modern life, our global business is involved in selling and marketing products – copper, platinum and other precious metals, iron ore, coal, nickel and diamonds. Through our Marketing Business, we are able to offer innovative solutions to meet our customers’ specific challenges. This includes physical products, logistics and technical support, as well as pricing and financing solutions. 

You are responsible for supporting the management of legal risks and opportunities associated with Anglo American’s marketing business (excluding De Beers).

Your Key Responsibilities include:

• Support the success of Anglo American providing a wide range of legal advice to Anglo American’s marketing business (excluding De Beers).
• Identify key legal risks and opportunities associated with the marketing business’s activities, including day to day trading queries (physical and paper), disputes, projects and origination transactions.
• Update the Group Legal reports comprehensively and accurately as-and-when material developments occur or monthly, whichever is the more frequent. Where required, participate in briefings of BU management and other stakeholders.
• Work closely with the business teams to provide timely and appropriate advice in connection with commercial transactions, projects and strategy developments.
• Manage client relationships to deliver high quality/timely advice to the Anglo American Group in relation to its marketing business legal activities.
• Report to client on a regular and consistent basis in relation to progress, costs and issues arising and obtain approval for material decisions in all matters in which the role holder is the lead lawyer.

• Qualified as a solicitor in China and another relevant common law jurisdiction such as UK, Singapore, Australia or Canada
• Experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and structuring, leveraged and management buy-outs and/or private equity transactions preferably gained in-house within a large multinational
• Experience of intellectual property sharing agreements and product partnering and development arrangement.
• Knowledge of anti-trust and compliance issues in products development and commodity contracts
• Commercial awareness and pragmatism
• Dispute resolution
• Commercial understanding of consequences of legal risk and scenarios
• In-depth understanding of identifying and mitigating risk
• Experience of working for a global business with operations in diverse locations
