Linen Sorter

The Linen Sorter is responsible for separating dirty linen and maintaining proper cleanliness of linen room and storage rooms.

Essential job functions:

 

• Separate linen by item according to established hotel procedures
• Monitor linen for wear and tear
• Separate torn and / or unusually heavy stained items from other linen and place into appropriate carts
• Use care to prevent linen from falling on the floor
• Ensure bins are clean, and clean inside if necessary
• Place soiled laundry bins in designated areas for pick up by laundry contractor
• Cover top of bins with bin cover
• Maintain a clean and organize work area at all times
• Sweep dust and /or mop floors of linen chute area every hour or as needed
• Clean linen sorting table
• Dust all walls and vents in linen room thoroughly when needed
• Remove garbage and clean trash cans
• Clean all linen storage rooms ( soiled and clean ) at the end of the shift
• Report all concerns related to Engineering/Maintenance, ( including wheels on bins )  Health and Safety, Security or Suspicious circumstances (including smells/sights and sound) to the Manager
• Assist in emergency clean up that will include but not limited to Flood
• Clean bodily fluids, blood, human and animal fetus
• Remove graffiti and gum from all surfaces in linen room

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of proper linen handling
• Knowledge of proper chemical handling
• Knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment
• Knowledge of blood borne pathogens handling
• Ability to perform all above mentioned general and specific job duties
• Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with co-workers and management to their understanding
• Ability to understand and comply with all hotel and departmental policies, procedures and standards to ensure safe and efficient operation
• Able to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations
• Must be flexible in terms of working hours

Physical Requirement:

• Must be able to physically lift, and / or  carry objects up to 50 lbs
• Push or pulling items weighing app. 200 lbs
• Frequently standing and walking around the property
• Frequently bending , kneeling, stretching and reaching
