Linguistic Services Manager - Minority Languages

About the role:
As the Linguistic Services Manager, you will be part of a team that targets low-resourced, minority languages. You will be responsible for researching these languages (finding out their standard dialect, current orthography, geographic distribution, etc.), getting in touch with local linguists, associations and academic experts, and establishing a cooperation framework. You will work together with your colleagues and the production team around the world, to apply, define and implement new and current language quality management processes in order to ensure our deliverables are in-line with the client’s expectations.
About the project:
In this team, we are working on empowering language communities worldwide to build and improve their own linguistic AI products, such as Machine Translation (MT) engines, Speech Recognition, automated audio transcription, etc. These technologies aim at breaking language barriers, creating corpus of user-generated content that’s public and available to local users, and allowing them to develop reliable systems that automatically identify and block toxic content.
Responsibilities:
- Provide linguistic services to the production team, our partners and clients.
- Drive the creation of a worldwide network of linguistic experts and local associations and set up the framework to cooperate with them.
- With the help of your direct manager, manage continuous and proactive development, design and implement quality management methodologies, special linguistic services (quality reporting and monitoring, vendor training, and linguistic research and networking).
- Deliver assigned linguistic services tasks (e.g. enforcement of linguistic guidelines, proactively manage quality across assigned languages).
- Create training materials for translators and assorted linguistic stakeholders, etc.
- Research specifics of minority languages and update database of minority languages
Requirements:
- Linguistic, Anthropology or Ethnology background
- At least 2 years of working experience using networking and negotiation skills
- Ability to work at multiple levels: from consultancy to data entering, from client presentations to administrative tasks.
- Strong communicator in spoken and written English
- Data-driven, good command of MS Excel, Knowledge of Power BI is a big plus
- Very good coordinating and communication skills (providing training, communication with customers)
- Previous experience in ethnolinguistic research and minority languages an advantage.
- Must be capable of working in fast-paced environment, have a flexible attitude to work, and have good problem resolution skills
