About The Role:

Reporting directly to the Engineering Line Manager or Engineering/Technical Services Manager, the position requires a high level of technical skills and knowledge of the Localization process. Possible to lead projects, this position also requires good organisational, man-management and communication skills.

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

• Pre/Post processing of files for translation, QA of target language files, including:

o Integrating applications (and/or Help) and build localised assets in target environments/languages

o Developing & implementing test plans

o Directing testers/trainee engineers

 

 

• Technical support of team

• Support project manager and interface with clients

 

 

• Organisation of allocated projects including:

o Milestone adherence

o Early escalation where quality or project milestones may be jeopardised

o Implementation and adherence to SDL/ISO quality procedures

o Research and training where required

o Documentation of important project related information and distribution to the rest of the project team as appropriate

 

 

• Accurately record daily working time through use of Timesheet

 

 

Requirements:

Technical skills

• 2+ years working in a production environment with experience with the following:

o Hardware knowledge essential

o Knowledge of Windows and/or Macintosh environments (inc. server set-up)

o C.A.T tools knowledge i.e. SDLX, Trados, Catalyst, LocStudio, Passolo etc.

o XML/DITA/SGML/HTML authoring environments

o Help systems i.e. WinHelp, RTF Help, RoboHelp, Flare etc.

o Engineering preparation and post processing

o Scripting and Macro writing ability

 

 

• Additional knowledge of any of the following area’s would be an advantage:

o Linux, Unix (Solaris/AIX) OS’s (inc. server set-up)

o Advanced Scripting and Macro writing knowledge

o Programming experience with C, C++, JAVA and/or Visual Basic

 

 

• Thorough understanding of the localisation production process and factors that impact on efficiency and quality, including:

o Concepts of Translation Memory management and hardware, especially using SDL technology

o Issues related to Double-Byte, Bi-Directional and Indic language localisation and engineering

 

 

• Good understanding of the factors that influence project profitability

• Excellent verbal and written communication skill

• Motivated self-starter, who can work on own initiative as well as part of a team

• Analytical, methodical, quality oriented, deadline driven with excellent problem solving skills
