VON ARDENNE needs a capable and motivated Engineer for Mechanical Design to carrying out the tasks assigned by the Engineering department at VON ARDENNE headquarter, including design, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement. The successful candidate of this position will report directly to the Vice General Manager at VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and will collaborate with the Design, Purchasing, Quality and Manufacturing/Assembly teams on mechanical design projects.

YOUR TASKS

• Working in close collaboration with the Mechanical Design Department based at VON ARDENNE headquarters on design engineering competence localization for the Chinese market;

• Mechanical design project and task management with local mechanical design and project team;

• Developing conceptual and detailed design drawings for complex mechanical systems in compliance with technical, economic and timeline specifications, and aligning them in advance with supporting functions including global engineering, project teams and partners/contractors;

• Close collaboration with the VON ARDENNE departments Process Technology, Electrical/Software, Purchasing and Assembly, especially including close communication and information exchange with the Design Engineering department at the headquarters;

• Providing strong technical support and documentation to Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Assembly teams;

• Assisting the Sales and Service team with engineering expertise and technical concept development;

• Managing the design and review process for cost-effective development within budgets;

• Approving and releasing design documents to manufacturing and supply chain considering standardization and quality control of repeatable manufacturing processes;

• Using specialized software to create models and drawings of products;

• Research new materials and methods of development;

• Organizing and maintaining existing engineering records;

• Ensuring that components and assemblies comply with applicable industry and business standards;

YOUR PROFILE

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial design, mechanical engineering or related field, preferable in mechanical machine/systems design for vacuum process technology, master’s degree is a plus;

• 3+ years of proven mechanical design business experience;

• Excellent MS-Office skills and profound command of CAD programs (e.g. SolidWorks 3D); at least good knowledge of one 3D design software, preferably AutoCAD/Inventor and associated FEM;

• Impeccable attention to detail;

• Profound understanding of the interactions between mechanical, electrical and technological components;

• Experience with vacuum coating processes and environment are advantageous for this position;

• Good understanding of manufacturing technology processes and the associated manufacturing cost structure to realize cost-optimized design solutions;

• Project management skills, preferably in mechanical equipment design;

• Must have the ability to work independently in a reliable, well-structured and solution-oriented manner

• Very good command of spoken and written English and Chinese is mandatory for this position; speaking German is a plus;

• Excellent communication skills and outstanding team spirit.
