BMW UK Manufacturing Ltd is a modern, high volume and complex manufacturing Plant and is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. There are three distinct areas within the MINI Plant; Body in White, Assembly and Paint. All three areas require different skill-sets and you will have the opportunity to work in all of them.
Apprentice Maintenance Technician – Level 3
The training during your apprenticeship consists of the study of modern state-of-the-art automotive production technology, as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques. This includes: robot maintenance and programming and the general maintenance of our state of the art production facility and systems. Our core engineering training covers electronics, pneumatics, 3D modelling and printing, robotics, PLC’s, hydraulics, as well as general mechanical engineering.
The technical and maintenance teams you will be working with during your apprenticeship at Plant Oxford are responsible for the rapid detection, rectification and prevention of faults within our manufacturing facilities. They also control the operation, programming and maintenance of our automated production equipment. Your final goal will be to become a productive member of these elite teams.

You will need to be enthusiastic and well-disciplined as our apprenticeship programme is heavily focused on attitude and behaviour. In addition, you need to exhibit initiative, be reliable and conscientious. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to think logically and to work both independently and as part of a team.
Apprenticeship Programme and Career Development:
The BMW Group offers an enhanced level 3 apprenticeship commencing early September 2021. The four-year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of Engineering and production technology including: robotics, controls systems, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding and many more.
In your first year you will undertake practical training to qualify you with Employers Units of Competence. Following this you will undertake competency based training. You could have the potential to move onto the Higher National Certificate (HNC) at level 4 in engineering subject to your performance and attitude.
The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment where in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program, you will undertake a practical based engineering program which covers core engineering skills such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits and control and fluid power, PLC’s etc.
Our mentors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.
Rate of Pay:
A competitive salary enhanced annually depending on individual progress and performance starting at circa £14,333 per annum rising to over £27,000 at the end of the programme.
Company car scheme eligibility to those 18 years and over, plus other benefits including an on-site gym, pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and a subsidised on-site restaurant.
Working Hours:
37 hour working week, start and finish times will vary according to work-based placements and college hours.
As part of your application you will need to upload a copy of your most recent school report* and a CV. If you don’t have a school report then please upload a CV and an employer reference. If you don’t have an employer reference, then please upload a CV and a personal statement.
- A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at level 5/C (or above) including Maths and English
- A technology related subject or a BTEC level 3 (60 credits plus) or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Technology discipline would be advantageous but is not essential
*If you are currently studying or have taken exams you must upload a school/college report or evidence of your results. Please note that you can submit teacher assessments, predicted grades or other supporting evidence as proof of qualifications.
When it comes to selecting the right apprentices, it’s as much about attitude and behaviours as it is about vocational and academic success. That’s why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes and behaviours. These include: team working, as well as the ability to work without close supervision, quality focus, good communication skills, showing enthusiasm and initiative, and responsibility and accountability for your work.

Assessment centres for apprentices will take place in April or May 2021, exact dates to be confirmed.

As part of your application you have been asked to upload specific documents. If you do not attach these, your application will not be progressed.
You must also be able to provide proof of your legal right to work in the UK, if you are not a UK or European passport holder.
