Position: MYP English Language Acquisition Teacher (IB Curriculum)
We are seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive, and highly qualified MYP English Language Acquisition (ELA) teacher. The ideal candidate will be skilled in teaching English to non-native speakers across Grades 7-9, with a strong foundation in second language acquisition theory and practice. A
commitment to creating an immersive, supportive, and inquiry-based learning environment within the MYP framework is essential. Additionally, the candidate may serve as a Homeroom Teacher, acting as a primary pastoral and academic point of contact. Job Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
The full-time teaching load for this role is a maximum of 24 teaching periods per week.
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for MYP English Language
Acquisition classes across multiple phases, catering to a range of proficiency levels.
Implement a balanced approach to language teaching, integrating listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and presenting skills into meaningful units of inquiry.
Utilize a wide range of strategies (e.g., scaffolding, multimodal tools, realia) to make language input comprehensible and support EAL learners in accessing the curriculum.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and risk-taking classroom environment where students feel confident to practice and use the language.
Create a classroom environment that celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity.
Encourage students to use English as a tool for international communication and to share their own cultural perspectives.
Curriculum and Assessment:
Develop and implement unit plans that are conceptually driven, aligned with MYP guidelines, and grounded in Global Contexts.
Design and implement rigorous assessments according to school assessment policy that provide timely and constructive feedback to students. Where appropriate, integrate task types and success criteria that mirror those of major standardized tests (such as IELTS and TOEFL) to familiarize students with these formats and build test-taking confidence.
Maintain detailed records of student progress and use data to inform instruction and language support strategies.
Language Acquisition Focus:
Develop students' communicative competence for both everyday interaction and academic purposes.
Explicitly teach the academic language, formal register, and cognitive skills necessary for success in other subject areas and in standardized testing environments.
Explicitly teach academic language skills necessary for success in other subject areas, promoting transdisciplinary connections.
Integrate cultural aspects and international mindedness into language learning, helping students appreciate the interconnection between language and culture.
Homeroom Teacher Role:
Act as the primary pastoral and academic mentor for a designated class of students, fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive homeroom community together with the local homeroom teacher.
Deliver the school's pastoral curriculum and lead homeroom sessions focused on social- emotional learning, character development, and academic organization.
Monitor the overall academic progress and well-being of each student in the homeroom, providing guidance and early intervention where needed.
Serve as the first and primary point of contact for parents regarding their child's general well- being and overall progress within the school. Student Support and Supervision:
Provide one to two evening study supervision per week to support students.
Co-curricular Engagement:
Lead or actively support two Extra-curricular Activities (ECAs) per academic year, aligned with the school's co-curricular program.
Community and Collaboration:
Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the English department and across other subject groups to develop interdisciplinary units (IDUs).
Participate actively in departmental meetings, professional development, and school events.
Maintain regular and proactive communication with parents regarding student progress and curriculum. Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree or above (major in Education or related subject preferred);
2. With QTS/ PGCE//TEFL/national teaching certification;
3. At least 3 years of teaching experience in related fields;
4. IB/international school teaching experience preferred;
Salary and Benefits:
Monthly salary RMB 25000 to 30000 before tax;
