Job Title: Maintenance Technician II

Hours: 2-on, 2-off, 3-on, 2-off, 2-on, 3-off.  12 hours a day.  (Days 7:00am – 7:30pm).  (Nights 7:00pm – 7:30am).  With this schedule Technicians are off every other weekend.  There is an expectation that Technicians will cover some open shifts when their peers are on vacation or sick leave.

 

Job Purpose/Overview

The Shift Maintenance Technician maintains equipment and facilities to operate in the safest and most productive electro-mechanical condition, implements continuous improvement and supports new system installations, production strategies and plant reliability.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze condition, troubleshoot failures, repair and perform preventative/predictive maintenance on production equipment, building and utilities and all associated equipment.
  • Prioritize and manage work assigned to ensure immediate response to emergencies, diagnose faults quickly and make immediate repairs.
  • Be a lead in technical troubleshooting the process, mechanical and electrical (power and interlock) issues which prevent meeting the shift or weekly schedules.
  • Train operators/technicians on operational set-up issues.
  • Maintain and improve electrical and mechanical knowledge and skills to improve customer service levels.
  • Follow regular checks and follow preventative maintenance schedules, assessing condition and ensuring compliance with prescribed schedules.
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls, motor circuits, single and three phase electrical systems.
  • Work as a team member within the maintenance department to improve the total reliability of the plant.
  • Must observe proper Lockout/Tagout and all safety procedures as required.
  • Understand and utilize drawings, diagrams and equipment manufactures instructions.

 

Context and Scope

This role works in conjunction with the Operations Shift Managers and Leads, the Maintenance Leads and the Planner Scheduler to adjust to the critical reliability needs of the factory.  Technicians are responsible for setting priority when faced with multiple upset conditions and maintaining Production process flow.  Technicians will support equipment Operators in troubleshooting, repairing and setting up equipment as needed.  They play a key role in completing Break Down Analysis (BDA) when working with all these groups/associates.

 

Job Specifications/Qualifications

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Understanding of Plant Flow, Operations and Utilities.
  • Theoretical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits (AC/DC, single/polyphase, low/high voltage) and all related equipment both power and logic.
  • Proficient in basic mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers.
  • Good basic math, reading and writing skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Knowledge / Experience

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating and maintaining a variety of machines including Packaging, Palletizing, Extruding and Conveying systems.
  • 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline.
  • Working Knowledge of Food Safety, GMP's, GHP's, HACCP and TPM/MCE continuous improvement processes.
