The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a leading research university in Asia committed to excellence in education and research. The Information Systems Office is responsible for the development, support, and operation of the administrative systems serving the University, covering such areas as finance, human resources, procurement, estates management, admissions, student registration/records, and a wide spectrum of student services. A good part of these systems/services is served by the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP package, complemented by a suite of off-the-shelf and in-house developed systems.
The Office is seeking high caliber candidates to support the systems/services that are in place, as well as to develop/implement new system modules/functions that are essential for the digital transformation journey of the University.
The appointees will play a leadership role in the off-the-shelf packaged and/or application development/support projects of the Office.
Job responsibilities include the following:
Carry out the necessary user requirements analysis, business process re-engineering/ improvement and system design, system configuration, manage the user expectations, to ensure that a well-designed system is in place
Plan, monitor and control the assigned projects/tasks in the capacity of a project manager or project leader in order to meet the project timeline, quality and costs
Supervise subordinates to ensure the quality and productivity of their output, as well as meet the prescribed timeline
Manage outside vendors and contractors, where applicable, as part of the system development life cycle, to ensure value for money service delivery
Adopt new technology, practices, procedures and governance framework to increase the overall productivity, controls and work satisfaction in order to aim for a better workplace
Manage the enhancements or support requests to meet the required service level or user expectations
Applicants should have the following qualifications and competencies:
A degree in computer science, business administration or a related discipline.
Minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience, with substantial hands-on IT experience of which at least 6 years in large scale tier-one off-the-shelf ERP packages such as Oracle PeopleSoft, Oracle eBusiness Suite. Alternatively, candidates should demonstrate similar experience in the design and implementation of large-scale application systems development projects. Exposure to the following platforms and technologies such as Internet of Things, mobile apps, enterprise content management (document management system), big data and predictive analytics, artificial intelligence in the digital transformation processes is a plus.
Strong leadership, analytical mindset, and problem solving skills, and the willingness to drive changes in a complex environment.
Strong interpersonal skills so as to influence and communicate with all levels.
Preferably, candidates should have worked in a consulting capacity in one of the leading consulting practices. They have to demonstrate substantial experience and skills in project, customer and vendor management.
Business process re-engineering experience using the Six-Sigma/Lean methodology is a plus.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
