This Business Intelligence Manager is a key component of building Amgen's innovative pipeline by providing strategic insights into therapeutic and scientific areas. Working alongside others within the Business Development group, as well as with Commercial and R&D functions, the candidate will research and provide a point of view on the competitive space relevant to external assets being considered for a deal transaction, including key companies in the space, lessons learned from other programs, latest developments, and implications and recommendations.

  • Conduct research to identify information such as relevant available therapies in the specific disease space, competing compounds in development, clinical development plans of competitors, primary and secondary indications, key events, competitor deal structures and terms, and company and asset profiles
  • Distill data into concise analyses/reports, recommendations, and implications to enable sound decision making for investing in external assets
  • Act as an internal consultant and knowledge specialist to provide in-depth research of therapeutic area external landscape, competitive intelligence to support engaging in due diligence of targeted assets, and post-deal partner intelligence through robust use of technical databases
  • Work in a highly cross functional manner and manage changing priorities across several key customers
  • Maintain a current awareness of developments in multiple Therapeutic Areas, (likely to be from among Oncology, Inflammation, Neurology, and Cardiovascular)
  • Domestic Travel (15-20%)
  • This role can be based in South San Francisco or Thousand Oaks

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

Or

Master’s degree & 2 years of Business Development, Strategy or Commercial experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree & 4 years Business Development, Strategy or Commercial experience

Or

Associate’s degree & 10 years of Business Development, Strategy or Commercial experience

Or

High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Business Development, Strategy or Commercial experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in, or with, biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutics, or healthcare strategy consulting environments in areas such as competitive intelligence, business development, strategy, commercial, or market research
  • Master’s degree with Business Intelligence, Competitive Intelligence or Life Science focus
  • Understand the landscape from a scientific, drug development, and commercialization perspective
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience with databases such as, but not limited to, Thomson Cortellis, RECAP, Evaluate Pharma, Thomson One, Citeline Trialtrove, Pharmaprojects, and BioMedTracker
  • Experience within one or more therapeutic areas, with specific experience in Oncology, Inflammation, Neurology, or Cardiovascular
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills—able to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Decisive and comfortable working within an ambiguous environment; ability to fit the project to the problem
  • Efficient and works with urgency; ability to meet tight timelines
  • Ability to think strategically and analyze data to support key business decisions
  • Demonstrated analytical skills—understands the advantages and limits of different analytical approaches and studies and their findings
  • Creative problem solving skills

  • Experience working in a global, matrixed, cross-functional organization
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team-based environment
