Job Description

McDonald’s Global Supply Chain (GSC) delivers a significant competitive advantage for the McDonald’s System through our global alignment and leverage related to predictable and competitive pricing and an assured supply of responsibly manufactured, safe, compliant, and high-quality food, consumer products and packaging to our customers each day.  GSC strategically drives key initiatives that collectively promote innovation, customer value, brand health and protection while enabling superior business performance.

The Consumer Product Safety Manager reports directly to the Director of Global Supply Chain Safety & Compliance and drives the development of global safety standards and processes for McDonald’s consumer products (non-food).  This individual is accountable for establishing and leading the development of expectations, identifying new areas of focus and leading continuous improvement efforts and/or projects significant to promotional and Happy Meal program products.  This role requires building and enhancing strong supplier working relationships to drive performance excellence.  Key stakeholders include McDonald’s Supply Chain, Marketing, and Legal as well as external agency partners and third-party safety laboratories.

Responsibilities

·       Leadership and Teamwork:  Lead cross-functional teams and leverage the team’s diverse perspectives to achieve results.  Ensure collaboration by building team spirit, establishing, communicating, and reinforcing McDonald’s company values.  Establish good working relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues and build an effective network of contacts.  Work with members of the compliance team to identify opportunities for supplier scorecards that are holistic and representative of their performance in McDonald’s supply chain.

·       Project Management:  Manage the implementation of significant global projects that involve complex systems and multiple deliverables.  Oversee program execution with clearly defined objectives, monitored performance against deadlines and milestones, and activities designed to achieve results/deliverables.  Lead the development of global safety standards, processes, and best practices to improve and maintain safety and compliance.

·       Analysis and Problem Solving:  Establish effective systems, programs, support tools and business case recommendations to maintain and improve safety and compliance.  Track quality/safety data and conduct analyses to ensure effective measures are established to govern and maintain the highest level of safety performance and compliance and identify opportunities for enhanced risk mitigation.  Working with the safety system of suppliers and service providers, develop strategies to proactively address emerging safety opportunities and risks.

·       Change Management:  Proactively identify the changing needs of our customers, employees and system and successfully lead innovation that improves the business.  Facilitate and manage the implementation of large-scale change.

·       Communication:  Develop communication tools that share consumer product quality/safety data with key stakeholders.  Communicate clearly and simply, expressing opinions, information, and key points in both written and verbal formats.  Ensure continued alignment among stakeholders in order to drive efficient, coordinated efforts.  Summarize detailed technical information in understandable terms.

·       Issue Management:  Support investigation of quality/safety related issues in coordination with manager and key stakeholders.  Ensure key learnings from issue management result in standard or process enhancements and implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

·       8 years or more of experience in a safety, quality or related field required

·       Safety engineering experience with toys or other highly regulated product category

·       Product manufacturing, engineering, and safety engineering experience required

·       Keen understanding of product manufacturing in Far East and Southeast Asia geographies

·       Strong project management and leadership skills to oversee many projects that leverage personnel from multiple disciplines with varying interests

·       Seasoned communicator (verbal & written) with an understanding and track record for effective management and communication of information

·       High degree of proficiency in computer skills with Microsoft Office suite of programs, internet research, SharePoint and other necessary technology systems

·       Willingness and ability to periodically travel internationally (approximately 25%)

Preferred Qualifications

·       Six Sigma certification is preferred

·       Track record of driving positive change in an organization

·       Understands and represents McDonald’s core values

·       Familiarity with chemistry and chemical safety principles is preferred

·       Experience working in a large corporate environment, preferably in the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) industry

·       Self-motivated, accountable, drive to initiate, plan, resource, and complete large-scale projects

·       Demonstrated strategic thinking ability and the ability to translate it into action

·       Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, ideas, and initiatives.

·       Embraces change in the quest to continuously improve, acts as a change agent

·       Strong decision-making skills, including ability to conduct fact finding, interpret large data sets and make well-reasoned decisions with limited information when circumstances require

·       Ability to influence without direct authority, including peers, suppliers, and management

Minimum Educational Requirements

·       Undergraduate degree required, engineering major preferred
