POSITION OVERVIEW:
The position will lead the development of the global dangerous goods program worldwide, providing corporate wide leadership and technical support to Abbott’s Dangerous Goods and Federal Motor Carrier programs. The position acts as the primary contact with regulatory bodies to influence dangerous goods regulations and provide technical support /strategy to Abbott sites worldwide.
The Manager, Dangerous Goods Programs is responsible to ensure Abbott dangerous goods transportation shipments (such as medical devices containing lithium batteries, reagents, and other products, waste shipments, and return goods) are regulatory compliant and that there are no uninterrupted product shipments. The position is responsible for the development of worldwide standards, procedures, and tools to ensure Abbott's dangerous goods shipments are appropriately managed. The position is also responsible to ensure FMCSA regulations are met.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Chair Abbott’s Dangerous Goods technical expert team of 15 division experts and provide dangerous goods transportation technical support to all Abbott sites.
Chair the FMCSA management team and provide technical support to ~12 sites subject to the regulations.
Serve as the Corporation’s primary contact with external trade organizations and regulatory agencies to address key global compliance issues applicable to Abbott.
Communicate proposed regulatory ruling and changes to applicable Abbott sites.
Develop and implement action plans to address regulatory changes.
Establish and maintain Dangerous Goods procedures and policies worldwide.
Oversee and develop Dangerous Goods and Federal Motor Carrier self-assessment program.
Conduct Dangerous Goods regulatory and program assessments worldwide.
Serve as the Corporation’s primary contact for dangerous goods transportation incidents and assist in incident investigation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Experience/Training required:
At least ten years of experience in dangerous goods and hazardous materials management.
US DOT, IATA, IMDG, and DGSA dangerous goods certifications, or able to become certified.
Experience with classification of dangerous goods.
Team leadership experience involving cross-divisional and cross-functional participants.
Track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external clients/resources; demonstrates ability to successfully negotiate among peers and customers.
Proven success managing projects and programs.
Consultative skills and client service focus; ability to work with internal stakeholders and drive towards consensus and decision.
Strong operational understanding and experience.
Global regulatory perspective.
Project management and program execution expertise.
Minimum Education required:
Bachelor of Sciences (BS) degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Supply Chain Management or EHS-related field.
