The Portal team is building products that make it easier for people to connect with the ones they love most. We are a team of world-class experts developing and shipping products at the intersection of hardware, software, and content.
The Portal Hardware APAC team is an extension of the Menlo Park-based Hardware product team. It encompasses mechanical, electrical engineering and program management. The team has several key responsibilities: ; Contribute directly to the engineering, planning, and execution of product development from concept to production ; Help facilitate & coordinate a smooth joint-development effort with partners and suppliers by being present with those teams ; Contribute to the growth and development of our partner teams
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The manager of this team will be responsible for guiding these efforts and the growth of the APAC HW team by:
  • Recruiting and developing key HW engineering and program management capabilities in Asia
  • Working with leadership in Menlo Park to ensure effective collaboration between US and APAC engineering
  • Building relationships with key partners and influencing their staffing and capabilities
  • Supporting coordinated platform work across other Facebook hardware efforts
  • Putting in place processes, tools and communication paths to scale the team's work
  • The APAC Portal HW team is critical to the future success and scale of Portal. The engineers and program managers on this team are a key piece of our development strategy and each multiplies the overall team capabilities. The ideal candidate for this role should be experienced in working with the consumer electronics supply chain in China and other parts of Asia. They should be familiar with joint development and with multi-regional teams that work across time zones and continents. Ideally they have managed remote teams that have successfully developed and shipped consumer hardware at scale. They should have strong abilities to recruit, hire, motivate and retain the best engineering talent in the region.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering management.
  • Experience managing and building engineering teams in Asia and directly managing or working closely with partners in another region.
  • Experience with joint development of consumer electronics, including improving capabilities of partner teams
  • Experience in delivery and commercialization of consumer electronic devices (e.g. phones, smart home etc)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Track record of developing and retaining standout talent
  • Extremely effective partnership and collaboration skills, driven by working closely with other Engineering, Product Management, Program Management, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Experience managing new technologies
  • Experience/demonstrated ownership of full product development
