This exciting role offers opportunity to: As the Supervisor, Human Centered Design, for the APAC region you will play a key role by leading a team focused on discovery, interaction design, visual design, and industrial design, all firmly grounded by HCD principles. You will help build and lead a growing team with backgrounds in UX, Industrial Design, HCI, Visual Design, Content Design, User Research, and Design Strategy for the APAC region. You will be responsible for developing a world class design organization that continually sets standards for design across all product groups within Eaton. Working directly with members of CCIS and with product teams from across the company, you will drive state-of-the-art practices in HCD throughout our product lines to support the creation of compelling user experiences for our customers. You will participate in crafting a long-term vision for building a human-centered company and a concrete strategy for execution on that vision that drives early, significant, and measurable wins for the company and our customers. In this function you will: Aid in the development and execution on a strategy to drive human-centered design and Design Thinking throughout the company, demonstrating early, significant, and measurable impact. Attract, retain, and build key talent on your team into design leaders; develop a pipeline of talent through partnerships with leading design-focused organizations and academic institutions. Drive organizational maturity through exceptional collaboration and communication while managing the day-to-day operations of your team. Ensure a focus on and execution against top priorities, and that the work of all team members is on-time, on-budget, and of the highest quality. Develop partnerships with vendors to increase the effective global reach of your organization, to support critical programs, and maintain a cost-effective approach to scaling design services. Build HCD competency in the APAC region. Provide thought leadership and evangelize HCD and Design Thinking within Eaton; establish and sustain strong partnerships with product teams to ensure that HCD is an integral part of the product development. Present design concepts to cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior leaders, and to various internal and external audiences with confidence. Be knowledgeable and stay inquisitive about new skills, techniques, and digital design developments, and help your team successfully apply them to work practices. Share knowledge, experience and skill with other design staff; work with design counterparts to ensure continuity across initiatives, categories, and projects. Contribute to the success of large and complex projects or programs, managing risks and resource requirements. Regularly consider industry practices and trends in design thinking/HCD; present findings, make recommendations, and integrate into solutions as appropriate. Display design flexibility and a deep understanding of design fundamentals, creating work spanning UX, Industrial Design, and front-end development. Track and communicate defined KPIs associated with platform use in Eaton’s products. Forecast staffing levels of the APAC team and plan staffing to meet needs of Eaton projects and departmental initiatives. Qualifications Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Human Computer Interactions Design (HCI) or related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience in Human Computer Interactions; Or a Master’s or PhD degree in HCI, Design or related field and a minimum of 6 years of related experience 8 years of full product development life-cycle experience 6 years of project management/leadership experience on UX and/or front-end related projects 3 years of experience managing and leading a team of designers Preferred qualifications: Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction or related field. 10 years of full product development life-cycle experience 8 years of Project management/leadership experience on UX and/or front-end related projects 5 years of experience managing and leading a team of designers Experience and exposure to Design Thinking tools and methodologies Experience with Agile software development Ability to travel up to 25% internationally and domestically A portfolio with a strong body of work demonstrating compelling information architecture, user experience, and progression from concept through production, across multiple disciplines and interaction media You are a charismatic and energizing public speaker, and you know how to command and energize a room You can lay out a compelling vision of the future, and get people to follow it Experience growing and managing a team, working collaboratively with product management and engineering, from concept through delivery of world-class customer experiences Experience working directly with business stakeholders Ability to clearly present design approaches to diverse audiences Incredible communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills backed up via portfolio of work. Significant experience in designing for usability Ability to facilitate and guide large workshops The ability to grasp complex and sometimes diverse customer needs and distill them into clean, understandable solutions You’re an advocate of human-centered design, an expert in design methodologies, and skilled at translating design thinking for non-designers Expert facilitation skills.
