Front Line Manager (Pilot Plant Manager)

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead a team of staff responsible for daily cell culture and purification bioprocessing operations. This position will implement a variety of production-related operations and technology evaluations, including but not limited to:

  • Performing processing on the floor, performing supporting activities such as media preparation, and equipment set-up/cleaning, managing staff and projects

  • Ensuring a world-class safety culture, continuously seeking to implement LEAN concepts for the improvement of efficiency and productivity as well as ensuring data integrity

  • Implementing production runs, experiments, commercial program support, and characterization efforts

  • Defining & detailing operation practices, ensuring documentation accurately reflects operations performed, developing and implementing area improvements (efficiency and safety) and lean principles, commissioning equipment, and participating in operations meetings.

  • Playing a key role in performing hands on evaluations and forming collaborations both internal to Amgen and with Vendors to advance upstream and downstream processing capabilities

  • Performing and leading all aspects of new product introductions, technology transfer, experimental design, equipment commissioning, and participate in equipment design

  • Analyzing data, process results, summarize findings, and identify challenges to future commercial processes

  • Communicating results through internal presentations, authoring standard operating procedures, document results in electronic lab notebooks, manufacturing procedures, and technical reports

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated analytical, project management, and continuous improvement

  • Must be willing to work off hours or non-standard shifts

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 3 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 10 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience

And

Previous managerial experience directly handling people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or guiding the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid knowledge of upstream and/or downstream, as well as a general knowledge of the associated analytical, and media/buffer preparation techniques

  • Upbeat and technically-minded, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Demonstrate the capacity to learn new systems and applications

  • Work effectively in team and/or project environments; possess strong math and digital literacy, as well as the ability to apply science-based thinking to practical applications

  • Experience in cGMP production environment useful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical/Biological Engineering (or other relevant field) and 1+ year of managerial experience
