Job Description

Assistant Financial Controller

Manages the hotel’s day-to-day Accounting function with the support of the Operations Accountant. Assisting the Director of Finance and Business Support in providing Financial leadership to the business and clear structure and direction to the Finance team. Primary responsibilities include preparation and analysis of the financial reports and reconciliations, internal and external reporting, budgeting/forecasting, audit and control, asset and liability reconciliation, working capital and cash control.

What you will be doing:

  • Effectively manages Income Audit, Payroll, Cash/Bank Control, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable to execute finance and accounting responsibilities for the property
  • Supports strategies and conducts activities to drive financial results, guest satisfaction and employee engagement.
  • Assists Director of Finance in developing the annual business plan, budgets, forecasts, financial reports, tax compliance and profit and loss statements on a timely basis to hotel management, corporate office, and owners and ad hoc reports as required.
  • Work closely with wider hotel team to ensure a functional understanding of departmental financial reporting and metrics.
  • Accurately prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review financial performance of departments analysing variances to forecast and budget
  • Develop and direct systems so that costs can be recorded and analysed
  • Ensure the hotel maintains and tracks fixed asset ledgers and depreciation
  • Supervise the preparation of the financial audit and coordinate the audit process.
  • Works through own team and influencing department managers to ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage business risks.
  • Assists in the hiring of accounting associates, and development and retention of a diverse high calibre workforce to provide strong functional expertise to the property and the discipline.
  • Verifies that profits and losses are documented accurately, in line with Accor procedures.
  • Demonstrates leadership by using interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourages others; advocates sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example.
  • Monitors all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected and/or accrued.
  • Updates and uses relevant knowledge, keeps up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to job.
  • Celebrates successes and publicly recognizes the contributions of team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs

Your experience and skills include:

  • Hotel Operational Finance knowledge – previous Assistant DOF or smaller hotel Director of Finance
  • Computer Skills – Strong computer skills, particularly Excel and preferably Opera, SUN, ADP, Micros
  • Accounting - Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, P&L statements, operating budgets, forecasting and scheduling, and the reporting of financial data
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Highly responsible and reliable
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on both guest needs, while balancing colleague needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
  • Empathetic leader, you are keen to build emotional connection with your colleagues, help them develop their strength and provide regular and constructive feedback.
  • You ensure a good communication of the Finance information and maintain excellent relationship and partnership with all the different hotel stakeholders (Owners, Accor Europe Luxury Division, Banks etc.)

Your team and working environment:

  • Working 5 days out of 7 with occasional weekend work required
  • Must be eligible to live and work in the UK
