Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities:

Operations

-Lead and manage a strong team of professionals in Beijing, working collaboratively with the Shanghai chapter, to ensure effective operation, performance and job satisfaction in China.
-Collaborate with CCBC leadership to define objectives and strategies for CCBC’s China presence, setting clear responsibilities and procedures in order for the operation to achieve these goals.
-Take responsibility for quality and delivery of CCBC services in China, maintaining high standards and member satisfaction, including annual budgets and financial targets. Do so in compliance with Chinese laws and regulations.
-Oversee administrative functions, regulatory compliance, and financial management of the Beijing Foreign NGO license.
-Implement effective employee engagement, retention, and development strategies in line with CCBC’s overarching policies.

Community/Advocacy

-Act as a senior business community leader for the CCBC, and for the Canada-China trade and investment relationship in China at large.
-Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including Chinese government officials, Canadian and Chinese business leaders, Canadian embassy officials, and visiting Canadian government representatives to enhance Sino-Canadian business relations and advocate for Canadian business community.
-Provide thought leadership and insights from on the ground in China to contribute to the CCBC’s annual strategic plan, research/position papers, member survey analyses and more.
-On occasion, speak on behalf of CCBC in media interactions, promoting the Council’s perspectives and viewpoints from Canadian business.
-Maintain communications with Chinese government officials related to trade and investment. Cultivate both senior and working-level contacts with Chinese ministries/regulators in sectors of interest to Canada, as well as with MOFCOM and MFA.
-Monitor and report on important business and political developments in China.
-Develop effective strategies for the CCBC Chamber of Commerce in Beijing to engage and support the Canadian community; manage CCBC’s relations with other China-based councils and chambers.
-Seek speaking engagements with Chinese industry associations and other business groups across China.
-Establish and deepen relationships with officials in both state-owned enterprises and private firms in sectors of greatest interest to Canada.

Revenue Generation: Events/Services/Membership

-Lead membership growth initiatives, including setting and achieving recruitment goals and maintaining strong relationships with existing members to maximize retention.
-Organize and execute professional-grade large and small-scale events, including business forums, panel discussions, gala dinners and community engagements.
-Develop and coordinate with partners regarding sponsorship of or support for major CCBC events and programs.
-Develop and build upon the existing foundations and client base of the CCBC ChinaProxy Centre, which serves members with HR, office rental and incubation program services.
-Ensure seamless coordination and communication with all other CCBC chapters, and respond to membership service requests from member firms from other chapters.
-Coordinate business matchmaking programs for Canadian delegations, identifying and communicating with potential Chinese partners or investors.
-Initiate service contracts for work in Canada and/or China. Implement/supervise service contracts that originate from Canada for work in China.
Other duties as delegated by the CCBC leadership team

Qualifications:

-Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience, with substantial professional time spent in China and in progressively-senior leadership roles.
-Deep understanding of the business landscape and expatriate community in China, particularly as it pertains to Canadian enterprises and stakeholders.
-University degree in Business, Economics, Political Science, or International Affairs, etc.
-Understanding of government systems related to economic development.
-Seasoned and competent demeanour suitable for the highest-level interactions with government and corporate leaders from both China and Canada
-Exceptional communication, writing and presentation skills, bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese, French is an asset.
-A proactive, growth-oriented approach to expanding CCBC’s membership, exposure and program offerings.
-Demonstrated leadership abilities, including strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and proven management skills.
-A self-motivated, responsible individual committed to high standards and continuous improvement, with ability to work in fluid and high-latitude environment. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks for multiple projects and deadlines.
-A team player, reliable and detail-oriented
-Strategic thinker capable of synthesizing new information to refine CCBC member advocacy positions and internal operational strategies.
-Personal integrity and strong sense of professionalism, understanding how to work within organization policies related to the use of key account information.
-High degree of proficiency in MS Office applications, as well as familiarity with CRM programs. Familiarity with communications and marketing tools such as Wechat, Weibo, and mailing lists.

Excellent candidates with less experience will be considered for the position of CCBC Beijing Chapter Director.
