Part 1 Personal Requirements

Education Background & Professional Knowledge:

Native English speaker;
Minimum education level: Bachelor’s Degree
Computer literate
Magazine editorial and/or writing experience (minimum 3 years)

Personalities & Characters:

Self-disciplined, able to work to deadlines and as part of a large team
Flexible, innovative, and able to think out of the box
Organized multi-tasker and able to handle pressure
Good time-management skills
Excellent editorial skills
Basic fluency in multimedia content
Basic fluency in magazine design

Part 2 Key Responsibilities Area – What you do

General Description:
The Managing Editor of City Weekend Shanghai is charged with determining and representing the voice, spirit, and style of City Weekend (CW) Shanghai magazine, supplements and related digital products. Particular focus is on day-to-day editorial operation, execution of editorial guidelines, overseeing design communication, recruiting, managing related budget, community liaison and client liaison.

Key responsible components are:

Planning
1. Creating yearly plans for CW Shanghai print and digital content across the publication, including regular audits of content and scheduling
2. Preparing content structure for CW Shanghai on an issue-by-issue basis and communicating it internally with design, photography, and sales

Production
1. Delivery of editorial content (features and columns) for CW Shanghai print products that meet the highest standards of excellence, on deadline and within budget
2. Establish a clear supervisory system to ensure that CW Shanghai magazine, website, and associated content is edited for substance, usage, and grammar prior to publication
3. Establish a clear process to ensure that design and creative briefs are full, resulting in the highest quality of images and lay out across the publication
4. Work with senior management to ensure content does not violate Chinese policy
5. Develop readership contact and community links
6. Support other sections of Ringier Editorial, marketing, and design where required
7. General management of content on CW Shanghai and Shanghai Expat websites

1. CW Shanghai editorial guidelines & policies are met and updated in all print and online products
2. Products are published according to process and deadline
3. Provide design leadership and troubleshooting
4. Stay within budgeted costs
5. Recruiting quality freelance writers
6. Work interdepartmentally to create annual content plans and 5-year vision plans
7. Administrative duties are successfully carried out
