Role

Manufacturing Engineer plans and oversees the execution of manufacturing process development for NPI, continuous improvement and product or process issue resolution projects involving contract manufacturers (CMs) and upstream suppliers. The Manufacturing Engineer drives the completion of the design of experiments, process qualification, issue root cause analysis, process changes and risk analysis at contract manufacturers and upstream suppliers. The Manufacturing Engineer identifies opportunities for process and yield improvements and cost reduction by analyzing manufacturing processes, defect/scrap data, and complaint data and trends.

Pre-Production

• Evaluate mechanical and electronic assemblies, sub-assemblies, and printed circuit assemblies and ensure they are designed for manufacturability.

• Evaluate HW designs to ensure production volumes and throughput targets can be met; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, component tooling, and materials.

• Apply knowledge of metal and plastic fabrication techniques to determine intended part suitability for mass production

• Define and implement detailed DFX guidelines and processes

  
  

  Mass Production

• Investigate, triage, and debug issues at CMs and all upstream suppliers

• Interface with CMs and all upstream suppliers to support investigation of product/component/material issues or manufacturing capacity constraints and troubleshoots remotely and/or on-site at the manufacturing facilities.

• Own manufacturing related product cost reduction initiatives

• Own manufacturing process and yield improvement initiatives

• Work with CMs and all upstream suppliers to understand assembly and finished good manufacturing processes

• Drive technical validation and Operations implementation of product design changes; implement changes at our CM's (contract manufacturers) through August’s ECR/ECO process

• Validate CM process control plans

  
  

  Overall

• Work with CM's to manage manufacturing projects

• Drive DFM to improve process and assure product and process quality by validating testing jigs/fixtures, test methods, and validating process capabilities of fabricated parts.

• Drive First Article (FAI) and CPK processes for qualification of piece parts

• Review tolerances and stackups as needed in response to tolerance change requests

• Propose and manage DOEs to develop and verify design/manufacturing suitability

• Validate test implementation, new test equipment, new assembly equipment, new assembly lines

• Assure product and process quality by validating testing methods, establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes, and implementing and initiating change control processes

• Create and release manufacturing/rework process instructions to CMs when needed

• Work with Returns team to identify and resolve process related product failures

• Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

• Provide manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests. Present information to cross functional team when required.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results on schedule and with the highest regard for product quality.

Qualifications

• You must have at least 7+ years of Manufacturing Engineering NPI Experience (Consumer products strongly preferred)

• BS in Engineering or equivalent

• Experience managing and collaborating with overseas contract manufacturers

• Strong understanding of tooling requirements for fabricated components

• Experience with DFM and validation of parts for fabrication

• Strong Communication skills (verbal and written)

• Strong Project Management skills

• Experience with ECAD and MCAD SW
