Job Overview
 
Manufacturing engineer is responsible for leading process improvement opportunities, line balance activities, and installation of plant manufacturing equipment.
 
Responsibilities
- Evaluate current production processes for improvement opportunities. 
- Recommend process changes and coordinate the implementation of these changes into production.
- Implement TOS+ and Lean principles in line re-balancing, and process re-design and throughput optimization.
- Calculate process throughput, and identify process bottlenecks (both assembly line and parallel processes).
- Coordination of Capital projects which includes researching vendor sources, request quotations, select vendors, developing justification, writing AFE, set due date, issue requisitions (coordinate with Purchasing), schedule tryouts, trouble shoot and approve equipment.
- Maintain plant layout for area, develop alternative layout solutions to improve process flow, material presentation, material delivery, etc.
- Work with both internal and external resources in the design, build, installation, testing and commissioning of various pieces of production equipment.
- Lead teams of both internal and external resources to modify production processes to meet throughput, lean initiative, and other facility goals.
- This includes production process conceptual layouts, equipment specification, operator ergonomic assist design, and lean improvements.
- Ensure engineering practices comply with government regulations and safety standards.
- Assisting facilities maintenance in troubleshooting/supporting mfg. equipment; robotic and PLC controlled systems.
- Review and update preventive maintenance procedures on automated equipment.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing concepts into the production process (mistake-proofing, ergonomic analysis, standard work instructions, continuous improvement and problem-solving).
- Address other manufacturing issues as they arise.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (this is the preferred degree), Manufacturing or a related technical Engineering field from an accredited university/college with 3+ years of related experience required

- An attached resume is required

Required Qualifications
- 3D Modeling Experience -- knowledge of Pro-E, CATIA, AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks

- A minimum of at least 3 years manufacturing engineering experience in a heavy-duty manufacturing and/or automotive environment (preferably in vehicle assembly)

- Experience evaluating production processes for improvement opportunities

- Experience leading teams of both internal & external resources

- Good written and verbal communication skills, and be proficient in basic PC MS software (Excel, Word, Power Point, MS project, etc) Visio


Preferred Qualifications 
- LEAN or TOS+ trained/expert

- Tool & die and/or fabrication experience

- Experience with process modifications, improvements, waste elimination on a large scale

- Experience leading process improvement opportunities

- Experience with line re-balancing and process re-design

- Experience coordinating Capital projects

- Experience developing alternative layout solutions to improve process flow

- Experience with compliance of government regulations and safety standards for engineering practices

- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, fabrication and assembly techniques
