Overall, the role of a Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is vital to ensure that a strong reputation for TOMS is maintained in the marketplace. The ME is a conduit between other functions and provides important ongoing feedback and communication. The ME is responsible for ensuring that TOMS’ products meet strict quality standards following shoe making best practices, Trade Compliance regulations and exceeding end consumer perceived value requirements. The ME participates in and supervises on-the-line and end-of-the-line quality audits and inspections as well promotes on-the-line quality and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs). The ME also insures that material testing procedures in the lab are followed. The ME is responsible for dealing with quality issues as they arise, working with other Liaison Office and HQ team members and with factory personnel. The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the ME Manager and keep tightly informed that role about all aspects of the factory production and quality situation. The role will also be responsible for collecting relevant data to be used in the on-going evaluation of factory performance.

Responsibilities

Quality: 30%
Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is responsible for the quality from the material receipt to physical tests requirement and from commercialization up through the production stage and final inspections. The ME works in tight partnership with the factory QC/QA teams. he/she monitors and supervises the execution of the QA/QC process routines during production from material receipt quality and spec check, to on-the-production-line and end-of-the-production line checks (including parts of the production process - semi-finished components of the shoes - executed in different location(s) than the main factory he/she is assigned to). Supervises and monitors final finished shoes: tight-AQL table based and/or 100% check inspections.

5% The ME is expected to execute the daily QA routines during production, on-the-line and end-of the line, including checking randomly picked finished shoes in export cartons prior shipping, auditing the quality of the factory QC / final inspection work and validating it has been well executed.

Delivery: 20%

The ME ensures any quality issue (including parts of the production process - semi-finished components of the shoes - executed in different location(s) than the main factory he/she is assigned to) is not impacting the ex-factory date (XFD). When issues occur, he/she immediately and proactively elevate them to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager and/or the Manufacturing Operations Senior, recommending resolution options.

Fit: 30%

The ME ensures the fit is checked and confirmed twice a day at each assembly line, while controlling that the factory model feet are as close as possible to TOMS critical measurements.

Cross function: 15%

Supports different department Costing/ Chemical engineer / Supply chain/ any HQ or Liaison Office teams if needed as a projects team member. Is responsible of the material arrival date to ensure the samples requested date is meet.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Entry Level, Intermediate, Advanced

Engineering, Development, commercialization, production, material background 0-3 years

Have a good knowledge about lean manufacture or implemented lean in factories 0-3 years

Being able to explain, being a mentor, negotiate, demonstrate

and keep good relations with the factory 0-3 years

Education/Experience Required or Preferred

Engineering, project management, methods, Development,

production 10 years’ experience diploma Required

Have work in branded company or worked for factory that made branded shoes Preferred

Travel requirement 5-10%
