Summary of Internship
The Manufacturing Operations Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing an engineering or sciences degree to get hands on experience working with operations, and engineering teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Operations intern will contribute to the POROS Manufacturing teams to provide engineering project assistance, troubleshooting efforts, and continuous improvement activities in the manufacturing of chromatography resins. Opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.
Essential Functions
- Perform duties within the corporate EH&S Standards
- Proactively identify areas for opportunity and drive efficient results
- Adhere to ISO 13485 guidelines and the Thermo Fisher Scientific quality policy
- Provide engineering support for process improvement and troubleshooting projects
- Run analytical assays and assist in the collection and analysis of test data
- Assist in equipment install and validation, as well as writing documentation such as SOPs, UOPs, IQ/OQs and validations
- Use highly specialized equipment and instrumentation in daily manufacturing
- Responsible for completion of all tasks assigned daily (working O/T may be required)
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
- Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Lab experience would be beneficial but is not a requirement
- Student currently enrolled in classes leading to an ABET accredited degree in Engineering or Sciences
- General chemistry or greater science knowledge preferred
- Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally to lift material as well as push full 55 gallon drums on wheeled dollies
- Ability to stand for 80% of the shift
- Ability to move ~40 lbs up one flight of stairs
- Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including work uniform, steel toe shoes, hair net, safety glasses, bump cap, and latex gloves. PPE may also include face shield, respirator, and smock
