About the job
Google has one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. Your team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google's powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you're right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google's infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google's infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.
The Industrial Design team is driving design on hardware products that are more approachable and blend better into homes. The use of textiles in our Home product line differentiate Google products from the typical Consumer Electronics Home devices.
As a Manufacturing Process Engineer, you are passionate about developing innovative designs and processes for the Soft Modules team. You will bring experience working with a range of materials including polyurethanes, PES, PA, leathers, knit, and woven and non-woven materials. Additionally, you have experience working with different adhesives and bonding methods for textiles, various mediums and substrate materials, and color, material and finish (CMF)/materials, Industrial Design, and Operations teams.
Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Hardware team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, more powerful, and seamless. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, our Hardware team is making people's lives better through technology.
Responsibilities
- Understand methods for characterization of textile quality and soft sub-assembly engineering requirements.
- Understand critical factors that impact operations in terms of cost, supply chain, quality, and scalability.
- Develop and maintain documents that control textile definition/specifications, cosmetic requirements, characterization, and metrology requirements, in order to be assembled and integrated onto the enclosure parts.
- Understand textile integration with rigid and soft components for soft-subassemblies (i.e., know which adhesives, processing temperatures, and other critical parameters to use). Understand assembly fixtures and die cutting tool designs.
- Integrate and communication cross-functionally on status of development, risks, and challenges, and identify potential upstream/downstream challenges as they relate to the fabric integration process.
