CBBC has been at the heart of the UK-China trade relationship for 65 years – we are the UK business network for China and the independent voice of business within this relationship. We are the only bilateral business network with longstanding and deep relationships and access to both the UK and China Governments. As such, through membership we help UK companies develop and grow their business with China, and Chinese companies expand and invest in the UK. We offer practical in-market assistance, services, industry initiatives and a membership programme delivering access, market intelligence, seminars, and networking through our network of 13 locations in China and 11 in the UK.

As part of a small but ambitious team of communications professionals, the post-holder will play a key part in taking our marketing and communications to the next level in China, and implementing a new, ambitious communications strategy for 2019-2020. The lead for marketing and communications strategy and delivery in China, this role will suit a confident, enthusiastic self-starter who is equally comfortable operating strategically and delivering tactically in support of our goal to substantially increase CBBC’s reach and engagement in China. Someone who can proactively seek opportunities to ‘tell our story’ in an engaging and impactful way, who builds successful relationships internally and externally, and who has the drive and resilience to deliver creative communications on time and within budget. Our key audiences include our members in both the UK and China, and key stakeholders including UK and China Government agencies, clients (non-members), other professional bodies/trade associations and the media.
Key Responsibilities
To lead, develop and deliver on the CBBC communications and marketing strategy in China by:
- Promoting and protecting the reputation of CBBC so that our members and key stakeholders understand and value our core offer, and see the CBBC brand as credible, competent and influential
- Supporting the senior management team in China to develop and deliver strategies and campaigns to improve brand exposure and support CBBC’s business development goals Leading on and coordinating a forward plan of promotional activities for CBBC membership, services and events/products by running campaigns aimed at CBBC members and stakeholders
- Proactively seeking opportunities for CBBC to increase brand profile and reach by identifying and promoting content and insight to key audiences in China across social media and other channels Producing and commissioning clear, engaging and regular high quality content across all channels (e.g. marketing collateral, website, WeChat, Weibo, email, PR, events) and managing our relationships with external design agencies and printers
- With the rest of the communications team, building and communicating a strong narrative that is woven through everything we do, using a range of channels to communicate effectively and continually evaluating our work
- As a key part of the marketing & communications team, to provide support and training across the organisation on how to get the best from our services by delivering expert advice, improving our communications planning and through a process of continual learning and feedback to improve our service.
Requirements
Specific requirements for the role are as follows:
- Bilingual (English and Mandarin)
- Demonstrable experience of delivering strategies and campaigns to improve brand exposure and support business development goals for an international organisation Able to identify creative opportunities and deliver high quality content on time and to budget, write engaging copy and tell our story across multiple communications channels
- Demonstrable experience in developing, posting and promoting content across all online and social media channels (website, WeChat, Weibo, direct email etc) to successfully increase reach and engagement rates
- Experienced in managing suppliers to deliver high quality collateral, branding and merchandise that provides value for money
- Has or can quickly build relationships with media and other relevant stakeholder communications professionals
The job holder will report to Marketing & Communication Director of CBBC UK.
