The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) invites applications and nominations for the role of Marketing and Communications Manager (International) within the Global engagement Office. The compensation package is globally competitive (including US and Hong Kong) and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
SUSTech (http://sustech.edu.cn/en) was founded in 2012 with public funding from the Municipal Government of Shenzhen. A thriving metropolis of over 20 million people bordering Hong Kong, Shenzhen has often been referred to as the “Silicon Valley of China” with strong telecommunication, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. Widely regarded as a pioneer of higher-education reform in China, SUSTech aims to become a top-tier international university that excels in interdisciplinary research, talent development and knowledge discovery. In the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World Universities Rankings 2020, SUSTech was included for the first time and ranked joint 9th among mainland China universities, and in 2019 was ranked 1st in the world among young universities created from scratch.
As part of the next phase of the university’s internationalization strategy, it is seeking a talented, dedicated Marketing and Communications Manager (International) with significant international work experience to integrate into the Global Engagement Office of the rapidly developing university making an impact on the world stage. They will work closely with outside agencies to ensure the implementation of SUSTech’s brand identity and messaging to an international audience.
The responsibilities of the role include:
- Producing the English version of the university prospectus
- Working closely with schools and departments to produce English-language promotional material and external communication
- Developing and implementing university-wide bilingual communication strategy
- Developing university-wide style guide for use in all external English language communication
- Developing first-rate content for university and departmental websites
- Producing university-wide PowerPoint templates
- Managing relationships with outside design teams and translation services to ensure timely completion of projects
- Negotiating with domestic and international media and online platforms
- Ensuring implementation of coherent branding across the university
The ideal candidate will have three or more years’ experience in marketing and/or public relations, in an international, English-language environment; a post-graduate qualification in marketing or public relations; experience of developing thought-provoking PPTs as well as marketing PPTs; be capable of developing strategic marketing plans, visualizing SUSTech’s core concepts and values and producing creative messaging around them; problem-solving skills and the capacity to take responsibility for decisions; creative visual design skills; be highly productive; capable of meeting the requirements of a fast-paced, dynamic workplace; the ability to work with high levels of accuracy, maintain an eye for detail and cope with competing priorities and deadlines; have excellent time management and organizational skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; be a high-level English and Mandarin Chinese speaker and have an excellent command of written English; and ideally have a familiarity with both international and Chinese higher education systems.
