Core responsibility
The Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Directors of Admissions and Development, and supports them in all work relating to marketing, publicity and communications.
Requirements of the position
The Marketing and Communications Manager should / will have a background in marketing and publicity, have good communication skills and an understanding of international education. In addition the successful candidate will possess the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in social media, writing press releases and liaising with different media channels, such as print, video, solid media, and so on.
- Excellent verbal and written Chinese language skills.
- Able to communicate effectively in English.
- Interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds (parents, students, media and school faculty).
- Prior publicity and recruiting experience for an international school in China/ East Asia or some knowledge of the IB Diploma Programme would also be preferred.
- Ability to work well in a multi-cultural workplace.
- Entrepreneurial in spirit and results-oriented with good time-management skills
- High level of personal integrity.
- An ability to generate ideas and develop them into reality.
- High level of computer literacy, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, video editing software, and so on.
- Ability to effectively use databases essential. Knowledge of MS Office, FileMaker Pro Software knowledge a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Good health, physical stamina and fitness.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Marketing and Communications Manager will assist the Director of Admissions and the Director of Development. His/her responsibilities will include the following:
- Managing and coordinating the outreach to stakeholders, including but not limited to: education bodies, schools, NGOs, expatriate and community groups.
o Build awareness of and support for the UWC mission and movement among these stakeholders.
o Ensure that all contact with stakeholders is updated in online tracking database.
- Conduct market research, develop and implement the marketing strategy in accordance with the UWC mission and value, ensuring a high level of professionalism in the execution.
- Lead execution of all communication activities and public relations (marketing materials, advertising, communications, direct mail, marketing campaigns, press releases, etc.).
o Write and edit Chinese and English news releases, Wechat stories covering school departments and alumni, a wide variety of school events and activities on time and of a good quality;
o Update school website, edit the school newsletter, ensure quality of news and articles before releasing;
o Update media database, build up and maintain high-quality media network;
o Invite media to school level and programme events and coordinate interviews; follow up on the media coverage;
- Managing the relationships with relevant local media partners, including TV, radio and print media.
- Assist to develop and implement marketing plans and projects for the Admission Office.
- Support school relationship with a set of target companies and bureaus and maintain relationships at the local level.
- Collect a close and broad network of prospective parents and students.
- Support, identify and produce conference opportunities that will enhance the long term strategy of UWC China.
- Other corporate communication duties as assigned.
