Siemens Large Drives Business Unit is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to craft solutions in the world’s leading air and water cooled, medium voltage, variable frequency drive solutions including 3D modeling, analysis, and accurate assembly and documentation for modification of electrical equipment used to power some of the world’s most significant process systems. Who designs your future? At Siemens You do! Responsibilities Perform engineering, mathematical and scientific analysis to support the design/development of new and existing products. Develop the design of sophisticated hardware solutions. Guide tracking of very complex orders to ensure that equipment, cost, and delivery objectives are met by responding to customers promptly. Develop mechanical engineering specifications to be used as technical guidelines in the design of new products. Build designs to satisfy the technical objectives of a project applying 3D CAD software and modeling software (NX preferred). Sheet metal enclosure designs Water cooling plumbing designs Analyze mechanical structures for strength, airflow, vibration, etc. Coordinate with electrical engineering on the design of electrical components. Coordinate with manufacturing personnel and materials personnel on the overall structure of assemblies in project designs. Direct a team of mechanical engineers and designers. Understand and implement ECRs for provided designs. Use of PLM system (Teamcenter) to acquire engineering released documentation Attend design reviews internally to resolve technical and programmatic issues. Participate and perform action items as a team member or lead projects involving other specialists and multi-functional team members. Represent Operations Engineering Department on multi-functional teams/meetings Demonstrates knowledge of organizations business practices and issues Self-motivated with ability to deliver timely Continuous improvement mentality Typically, eight-ten years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of responsibilities as presented above. Housekeeping and 5S activities which includes prioritizing work area for orderliness at all times and ensuring work area is accessible and safe for internal employees and customer traffic Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience BS Mechanical Engineering required. Certification may be required in some areas Eight to ten years of design experience Sophisticated math skills and problem-solving skills Knowledge of air-cooling designs and analysis Knowledge of piping and plumbing design and analysis Intermediate digital literacy required, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Good oral and written communication skills Strong organization and excellent time leadership skills Ability to work in a strong process-oriented facility. Possess a familiarity with, and an ability to follow, all engineering policies and procedures. Understand and follow a standard engineering ECR process Some travel required for position Safety and Quality mentality.
