Sponsorship benefits are available for this position. Eaton's Electrical Sector Power Electronics Center of Excellence is hiring a Thermal/Mechanical Specialist for its Raleigh, NC location. The Thermal/Mechanical Specialist will develop innovative solutions for our power conversion and protection products. This individual will be responsible for the integration of mechanical and electrical components for power electronics applications by creating structured 3D-CAD assemblies and using the state-of-the art FEA and CFD tools to ensure designs meet or exceed requirements. The individual will be a member of the global Power Electronics (PE) and Embedded Electronics (EE) Center of Excellence (CoE). In this role you will: Leads mechanical design and development activities and demonstrates start-finish ownership for the assigned projects and tasks. Develops design solutions for high power density electrical components and systems which are robust, reliable, and cost effective. Performs mechanical design (e.g., 3D CAD modeling) of components and assemblies, mechanical and electro-thermal FEA analysis, and thermal CFD analysis to develop high power density components and systems for power conversion and protection applications. Develops the technical requirements for and identify components for the designs. Creates technical reports and presentations. Performs engineering analysis to define critical design parameters and predict design latitude Performs lab activities like prototyping and measurement Collaborates with a cross functional team members like power electronics and electronics design engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, size, cost, manufacturability, and reliability. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Minimum 8 years of related engineering experience in integrating mechanical and electrical components by creating structured 3D-CAD assemblies and using FEA and CFD tools to ensure designs meet requirements. Understanding of thermal design and packaging of power electronics applications Significant experience in 3-D CFD SW (e.g., Ansys ICEPAK) & 1-D analysis Strong working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles. Working knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow Customer-focused with good relationship building and communication skills Fluent in oral and written English Preferred Qualifications: MS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent Design experience with power electronics and protection products for high power density and reliability Knowledge of materials and electronics packaging for power conversion and protection applications Experience with Multiphysics simulation for power electronics Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Design for Six Sigma certification Position Criteria: Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual.
