The successful candidate provides hardware design expertise, supports technology development research activities, and responsible for mechanical design of new products and support throughout the entire product life cycle. This position in R&D requires a person skilled in the conception, design, development, execution, implementation and support of analytical instruments and systems. The individual will perform on a multi-functional team utilizing 3D CAD and Simulation tools to create, optimize and maintain mechanical design engineering documentation.

How will you make an impact?

This position in R&D requires a person skilled in the conception, design, development, execution, implementation and support of analytical instruments and systems. The individual will perform on a multi-functional team utilizing 3D CAD and Simulation tools to create, optimize and maintain mechanical design engineering documentation.
What will you do?
- Design, layout, prototype, assemble, test and document industrial analytical instruments, systems, electro-optical and electro-mechanical subassemblies, along with weldments and sheet metal enclosures
- Perform calculations and simulations as required for thermal, fluid dynamics and gas flow management, stress, strain, deflections, proper loadings and safety factors
- Select appropriate materials and surface finishes for given applications
- Apply DFx methods into all new product designs. Work with the multi-functional team to implement DFx practices early in the design process and promote a concurrent engineering approach throughout the organization.
- Work closely with Procurement and Sourcing to provide cost effective designs that can be easily outsourced
- Create and maintain COTS component spec sheets, detail drawings and assembly drawings for use by R&D, Operations, Service and supply chain partners
- Complete and submit all required BOM’s, mechanical design engineering documentation and ECN’s for production release
- Adhere to revision control, data and configuration management, and all mechanical design and drafting engineering documentation standards
- Active participation in all applicable DFMEA, PPI, Kaizen 3P events
- Maintain a safe working environment, following all established safety protocols and procedures
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required
- Five (5) plus years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience after degree required
- Five (5) plus years of relevant SolidWorks 3D CAD experience required
- Three (3) plus years Product Data Management (PDM) experience for CAD drawings and files is required, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (PDM Pro) experience a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Environmental Engineering
- Experience in Environmental Engineering and Air Pollution analysis
- Experience in aPriori Design to Cost and Location software
- Experience in SolidWorks Simulation and FloWorks tools (FEA)
- Experience in SolidWorks plastic injection molded parts design
- Experience in SolidWorks Industrial Design and Man-Machine Interfaces
- Certifications in SolidWorks Associate User and SolidWorks Professional User
- Experience designing mechanical vibration and/or optical systems, analytical instrumentation and associated technologies
- Thorough knowledge of dimensioning, geometric tolerances, and drawing symbols required along with familiarity with drafting standards ANSI Y14.5 or ASME Y14.5M, and a willingness to follow internal drafting standards and procedures is crucial
- Excellent communication, computer, reporting and analytical skills using MS Word, Excel, PPT and Outlook skills required
- Proven track record to communicate and collaborate across multiple departments to drive high quality execution towards business goals
- Ability to prioritize key results while meeting overall goals
