How will you make an impact?


The talented Mechanical Engineer will join a cross-functional engineering team designing instrumentation to aid in cutting-edge biological and medical research. You will work with team members and a variety of R&D staff for successful NPI projects with an emphasis on customer wants and needs. In addition, you will participate in brainstorming sessions, research new technology and processes, as well as perform sustaining engineering tasks.


What will you do?
 

  • Lead product development processes and other technical team members from concept to production, with a strong emphasis on rapid prototyping during the concept and pre-production phase.
  • Develop product requirements and translate them to system requirements with subsystem and part level design specifications.
  • Understand and apply technical knowledge, theory and best practice as related to machine design, product development, component, subsystem design, and purchased part selection.
  • Assigned duties may include design and development of specific systems, modules, mechanisms or components to meet design requirements.
  • Operate hand and basic machine tools to assist in fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype hardware and assemblies.
  • Contribute as an individual as well as a part of a broader design team including electrical, software, and bio engineering members.
     
How will you get here?

Education
  • Bachelor or Masters in Engineering
 
Experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in product development, machine design, or related experience.
  • 3D design software: Solidworks
  • Experience with building Bills of Materials and creating detailed part drawings
  • MS Office tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience in conceptualizing innovative and creative designs using strong analytical and problem solving skills.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Sheet metal, machined, cast or molded part design.
  • Demonstrated ability for technical proficiency, creativity, problem solving skills, communication and task management.
  • Some combination of experience with Opto-mechanical, fluidics (volumes <1ml), Electro-optics, vibration, thermal, and stress analysis.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing prototypes
  • Can-do, results driven, positive behaviors with an inquisitive nature
