Job Description
Position Overview Siemens Large Drives is looking for a Mechanical Engineer for our medium-voltage drives business unit. In this role you will be collaborating with the Manager of Systems Development. You will be responsible to coordinate and lead moderately sophisticated design projects in order to meet product requirements, cost targets and product features, while ensuring a high quality design is released on-time to support project turning points and project budget. Responsibilities Lead moderately sophisticated design activities to support cost targets, feature development, design validation, type testing for 3rd party compliance and system packaging. Develop and package large AC drive, Power Supply and other Power Electronics technologies; introduce new features and design-to-cost measures to enhance existing product line(s). Develop methodologies for thermal management of systems (including but not limited to water cooling, air cooling etc.) Manage the list of materials and mechanical assemblies needed to fulfill the technical requirements of the project. Create Bills of Materials, develop new assemblies, validate functionality and release the part/assemblies into production. Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, simulation (e.g. CFD, thermal, mechanical stress) and design verification testing, as the need arises Provide technical expertise for failure mode and root cause analysis. Interface, communicate and transact with Siemens vendors to support prototype fabrication, tooling and design-for-manufacturing. Strong leadership, documentation, project management, and writing skills. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience Minimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required with at least 3-5 years of related experience. Must have experience with mechanical and electrical systems (knowledge on electricity, voltage potential, leakage current and conductivity etc.), specifically in engineering design, metal fabrication, and design-for-manufacturability. Experience spanning all phase of production development from concept creation through commercialization. Knowledge of sophisticated manufacturing process, e.g., injection molding, casting, sheet metal, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, etc. is preferred. Experience with thermal management systems (including but not limited to water cooling, air cooling etc.). Experience with plumbing, pumps, cooling sensors etc. for systems. Solid understanding of Product Development Process (e.g. stage gate / PLM) and design control. Experience using 3D CAD design software (NX preferred). Collaborative approach to take personal ownership of team objectives and proactively complete work independently to meet those objectives. Required travel 5% Qualified Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States. Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience Experience with Siemens software tools (Teamcenter, SAP etc.). Prior experience in collaborating with manufacturing facility. Hands on experience with mechanical engineering applied to production environments. Experience of working in multi-discipline teams. Familiarity with material science (specifications, types, behavior and corrosion). Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments. Typically, 3-5 years of successful experience in related field.
