Position Description:
My team is part of the Data Center Group responsible for server development at
Lenovo. We work with peers across worldwide design centers to share common
building block designs, and deliver high quality products to our customers. My
team is growing its in-house design capability, and I am looking for a senior
engineer with server design experience, and project team leadership
experience.

Responsibilities include leading a mechanical team of in-house and outsourced
design engineers responsible for designing printed circuit board layouts,
structural sheet metal enclosures, and plastic part designs in our next
generation servers. You will work with architects to close on a design
concept, then develop and validate the design. Candidate must be capable of
creating designs, evaluating other team member’s designs, and solving design
bugs when they arise. Candidate must be able to work in a close team
environment, interacting with the thermal, power, system, and extended team
members, to achieve a design, which meets the business and marketing
requirements. In addition, this candidate will be responsible for contributing
to common building block designs used across our portfolio. You will report
weekly project status to management.

Position Requirements:
Technical skills required include three dimensional computer design
engineering skills, including sheet metal and plastic part design. Candidate
must have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience using the PTC Creo CAD tool
and PTC Windchill for CAD data file management. This position requires
proficiency using Microsoft products including spreadsheets, email, and
instant message, and Sharepoint database. Skills to manage engineering
changes, bill of material creation, cost estimating and tolerance analysis is
required. Knowledge of server industry standards and compliance industry
standards is expected. Hands on experience with assembling and testing
servers, and using basic mechanical tools is a plus. A BSME degree is
required.

Non-technical skills required for this position include strong communication
skills for negotiating design details that support the product marketing
requirements. Strong written skills are required to document mechanical
specifications for the product, and reports of test results. This candidate
must have an understanding of marketing requirements, and the ability to
implement them into robust, cost effective designs. This position requires
ability to interact effectively with suppliers, and to advise and delegate
design deliverables. Creative thinking, problem-solving capability, leadership
skills, and teaming skills are also required. This is not a project management
position, but having strong organization skills are required to lead a project
team.
