Job Description

The Mechanical Design Manager will be based in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, China. Flex SDIC (Shanghai Design and Innovation Center) is looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to develop innovative automotive electromechanical products to meet customer specifications. This position is responsible for the Mechanical Design and Engineering Management of Automotive Smart Tech products. These include but not limited to Overhead Console Modules with Sunglass Bins, Ambient Lighting, Personal Lamps and HMI products such as USB & Multimedia Hubs/Driver Monitoring & Interior Sensing Systems, Wireless Charging Control Modules.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:

• Lead team of Mechanical Engineers create and generate exciting mechanical design solutions from customer Class A Surface utilizing CATIA/UGNX CAD software
• Develop the Mechanical Engineering department through leadership, mentoring, and training
• Direct & Coordinate Daily Engineering Activities, including Engineering Schedule Management (Prioritize Work, Assign Projects).
• Work with our exceptional customers to integrate our products into their vehicles
• Travel to customer and supplier operations to support problem resolution
• Evaluate products for cost reduction opportunities
• Drive process improvements in the organization and work area to optimize efficiency
• Ensure all changes made to designs are consistently and systematically documented
• Design products applying best practices, lessons learned, engineering tools and innovative design techniques to achieve a reliable product at a competitive price. Meet or exceeding customer expectations.
• Strive to simplify the design, make it easy to manufacture, mistake proof, attempt to anticipate areas of large variation and attempt to maximize robust design. Design environmentally friendly where possible.
• Confer with other engineering and cross-functional team members on a frequent basis to ensure all aspects of the design are coming together seamlessly.

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):

• Bachelor or Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• 3–5 years Automotive Mechanical Engineering Management experience with a large company
• Must have CATIA v5 and/or Siemens UGNX 11 CAD Experience
• Must demonstrate solid leadership skills in coaching, motivating and team building to maintain high standards and achieve organizational objectives
• Must demonstrate capability to use automotive engineering development methodologies such as BOM, DFMEA, DVP&R, Risk Assessment, Snap Fit Calculators, DFM/DFA, GD&T/RSS/TSA, Lessons Learned, Best Practices, Open Issue Tracking, Engineering Change process, etc.
• Must have solid understanding of plastic and metal materials used in the design of automotive products
• Demonstrated talent for conceiving efficient design solutions to complex engineering challenges as well as verification methodologies.
• Must have demonstrated understanding of part cost development and design-to-cost methodology
• Must demonstrate knowledge of Automotive Industry Requirements (APQP, MSA, DFMEA, IATF16949, etc.)
• Must have ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
