Eaton’s Electrical Sector - Canada is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Technologist position in EPC (Edmonton Power Centre) to join our team. This position is based at our Edmonton, AB location. Position Overview: Reporting to the product engineering supervisor, this position is responsible to performing pre-order and post-order product engineering on multiple concurrent projects which include new, custom, and customized low and medium voltage power distribution products. The incumbent uses CAD technology to make original layouts or drawings involving new or existing standard apparatus for low to high complexity orders, working from design specifications, oral instruction, or sketched concepts. In this function you will: Execute standard and customized projects with moderate level of guidance and direction. Work is reviewed on a regular basis. Perform product design to meet Eaton and applicable industry standards, customer requirements and production criteria. Prepare detailed design including general arrangement, welding, assembly drawings and part drawings (following ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.34 standards) by using 3D software. Creates accurate mechanical component bills of material to fulfill order requirements. Calculate fits, tolerances, strengths, weights, electrical circuit parameters and similar items. Anticipate manufacturing and/or customer requirement problems and develop design solutions Collaborate effectively with team members, supply chain, production, suppliers, management, marketing, sales, EatonCare, field service and customers. Responsible for the day-to-day review, coordination, execution, verification, and documentation of engineering changes. Plan personal schedule and update own and team milestone progress schedules daily. Actively participate in change request review and technical team meetings. Support and participate in the implementation of corporate initiatives and attainment of department and operations goals. Meet safety, quality, schedule, and financial objectives. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: 2 year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or 4 year University degree in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Industrial Engineering 1 to 3 years experience (Engineering degree) or 1-5 years experience (Diploma) in design for manufacturing in a manufacturing environment 1 to 3 years of engineering design experience in 3D modelling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred) Competency in using MS-Office & AutoCAD Preferred qualifications: Registered as Member in Training with ASET (Diploma) or APEGA (Engineering) (or similar association in another province) Experience in design for electrical power distribution and control assemblies ERP experience (Oracle Manufacturing preferred) Position Criteria: Self-motivated, energetic and capable of working in a very fast pace environment as part of a team and taking direction. Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills. Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
