This position joins a Mechanical R&D team which promotes an open and collaborative team culture responsible for the development of innovative virtual integration methods. The team develops and deploys cutting edge simulation and testing tools and capabilities in the form of Simcenter 3D-based Structural FEA, homegrown motion control models, and other System Dynamics and multi-physics models to enable Design Engineers exploit Virtual Design and Integration attributes.  The team also This position reports directly to Manager of Mechatronics & Structures Simulation team.

This is a role well suited to an ambitious professional, looking for the next step in their career. As a Mechatronics & Structural Dynamics Intern, you will be responsible for one or more of the following:

• Develop robust sensing and control algorithms for electromagnetically actuated robotic agents.
• Investigate and develop robust sensor-less feedback control for performance improvement of stepper-drive motion control systems.
• Develop linear-elastic fracture mechanics and Elasto-plastic fracture mechanics simulation capabilities that interfaces with Simcenter 3D.

This position may suit you best if you are familiar with what is below, and would like to do develop your career with Healthineers

• Good understanding of Control systems with basic understanding of structural dynamics and motion control; (OR)  good understanding and basic experience with fracture mechanics simulations.
• Proficiency with Matlab / Simlink
• Prior experience with FEA (ANSYS/Abaqus/Simcenter 3D)
• Good understanding of Finite Element methods and Solid Mechanics

Required skills to have for the success of this role

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/ Aeronautical Engineering) required
• Ability to conduct research and investigations independently
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher

Preferred knowledge/skills, education, and experience

• Good understanding of control system design, sensor fusion methods, and state estimation
• Finite element methods and analysis
• Beginner-to-Intermediate level experience in Fracture Mechanics modeling/simulations
• Previous engineering internship and/or co-op experience

Start Date: May/June 2021; 3-month duration with possibility of extension.
