Regular, full-time

The opportunity is to join AstraZeneca as the Medical Advisor in Canada responsible for building positive patient outcomes through improved customer education and engagement.  Based on an extensive understanding of immunology science and Lupus, the incumbent will take a leadership role in defining the long-term vision and strategic/ tactical plans in partnership with senior leaders.

The immunology Medical Lead plays a critical role in facilitating strong relationships across the healthcare system with external scientific, medical, and patient communities and will build relationships with key customers through expert peer-to-peer engagements. The Medical Lead will provide medical leadership to ensure that regional decisions are pulled through at the local level.

The role is based in Mississauga and reports to Medical Director – Respiratory & Immunology.

As Immunology Medical Advisor -   you will be accountable for:

  • Leading the development of customer-specific strategy, vision, objectives, and priorities based on overall franchise strategy.
  • Functioning as a critical company point of contact for Immunology related activities for the medical community and implement KOL strategy in [enter country].
  • Recruiting and integrating external knowledge into internal development initiatives in collaboration with matrix colleagues.
  • Maintaining high levels of understanding across scientific, clinical, health economic and technical expertise.
  • Building a best in class global medical organization to become a respected leader in pharmaceutical industry and the Immunology therapeutic area while cultivating an inclusive high-performance environment that values and leverages diversity.

Experience & Expertise required:

  • Advanced Clinical/Science Degree required (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD, etc.).
  • 8 years of related work experience (clinical, managed care, or industry experience)
  • Immunology therapeutic area expertise and business acumen required
  • Demonstrated evidence of successfully leading and managing teams that deliver measurable results
  • Demonstrate deep scientific expertise in immunology and strong relationships developed with key external scientific and medical customers and organizations in the region
  • Deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, key competitors and marketplace factors and dynamics
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, prioritizing and management of high-level initiatives and projects to consistently deliver results
  • Embraces an agile mindset to develop necessary processes to ensure consistent deliverables. Knows how to organize people and activities effectively to achieve impactful outcomes.
  • Financial acumen: capable of driving and managing budget responsibilities 
  • Proven strong influencing skills and stakeholder management
  • Experienced and comfortable working in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrates structured and measured leadership, interactions and decision-making during periods of high intensity in external or internal deliberations
  • A flexible, team orientated attitude, willing to contribute own skills to deliver AstraZeneca priority projects

Desirable:

  • Launch experience in first to market product category preferred
  • Prior experience as a field medical science liaison is preferred
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
