We are committed to advancing the science of R&I to deliver life-changing medicines to patients most in need. We have combining common pathways and underlying disease drivers across Respiratory and Immunology.

Our growing presence in Immunology is focused on five mid- to late-stage franchises with multi-disease potential. The disease areas we’re targeting include rheumatology (including type 1 interferon-driven diseases such as lupus), dermatology, gastroenterology diseases and systemic eosinophilic-driven diseases. Our ambition is to achieve disease modification and durable remission in these diseases for millions of patients worldwide.

Regarding Respiratory, we are entering an era of unprecedented potential to deliver scientific breakthroughs within asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic cough. Our overall research ambition for the future is to transform the lives of these patients through our growing portfolio of inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification with the ambition of achieving remission or even cures for patients.

As Medical Area Head Respiratory & Immunology you will be accountable for the strategic direction, business/resource planning, and team leadership of the R&I medical team in Italy.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Medical Area Head R&I you will be accountable for the strategic direction of the R&I Medical Team, define objectives, coordinate and prioritize the activities and resourcing of the Team. You will ensure scientific leadership, develop scientific and medical excellence, and build an image of AstraZeneca as a key player in R&I by developing innovative and differentiating partnerships. This role will report to the Medical Director of AZ Italy.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Medical Degree preferred, Pneumology Allergology, Immunology, Internal Medicines specialization is an asset
    • Extensive medical affairs  experience in the pharmaceutical industry , with proven track record in prelaunch and medical activities of complex R&I portfolio
    • Clear and proven extensive experience of people development , performance management, building performing organization and driving change management and innovation
    • Proven ability to interact successfully with external stakeholders , including health authorities
    • Evidence of team working and accountability
    • Ability to operate and influence  at a high strategic level in the business
    • Understanding of the responsibilities of a pharmaceutical company physician in compliance and governance
    • Fluent in Italian and English
